Hi, everyone! This morning I watched an interesting documentary on the History Channel on Conflict or Blood Diamonds. I started wondering if VJers, especially those with SOs in Africa, discussed the issue of conflict diamonds before(or after) getting engagement or wedding rings. Did you an your SO discuss conflict diamonds? Was it a factor in choosing an engagement or wedding ring?

Prior to meeting, Teddy and I had both chosen not to purchase diamonds, so of course this included my enagement ring and our wedding rings.

After watching the movie "Blood Diamond" I have decided that either I get a diamond from Ghana or cubic zirconia.

But then again I am not a big jewelry person so I would be happy with whatever I got :)

Bee and I are strongly against conflict diamonds, so that was a huge thing for us when we were assembling my ring at the jeweler's. After a lot of discussion, we felt comfortable enough to go with a Canadian solitaire from the Ekati mines. :)

Nini - Vancouver BC, Canada (she's the one who does the forum thing)

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

Wow, I never thought about diamond mines in Canada. It makes sense that they're everywhere (geology willing). I wonder if there are many mines the US?

Hey, Stacey 33! I just saw you were married in New Orleans, I'm from Louisiana! I went to college in New Orleans. Interestingly, the term "bling bling" was started by New Orleans hip-hop artists Cash Money Millionaires

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bling_bling

The article ties in bling bling culture to conflict diamonds in Africa.
