I'm almost ready to mail in our forms!!! I just need a little advice.

Will someone please tell me what the best way is to organize the paperwork? I don't know if I can punch holes in the papers and forms, put them in a 3-ring binder with tabs, put it in a two hole punch at the top and have it in a spiral folder from the top....I want to make it easy for the person to review and see everything and for nothing to fall out. Please let me know what you did and what they would like. I can't seem to get any good answers from calling the USCIS concerning questions like this!

Thanks again everybody!

i have mine in a 3 nice ring binder. I use the sheet protecters and insert the forms and things on those so i dont punch holes in any of the forms. i also encluded a few photo holders and put our photos in that.

I organized my documents by using tabs. I then used a black binder clip to keep it all together. I put the check in an envelope and just stuck it on top.

I read on another thread that USCIS has folders/binders that they put the info in anyways so I didn't bother with one. I think the key is to put things together in such a way that it is organized and together.

Hope this helps.

The service center will organize the file as it sees fit. If you want to hinder them and annoy them, put your papers in plastic sheets so they have to remove each one. That'll get your case adjudicated.

Just put them in the recommended order, clip them together with something adequate and put them in the correct size envelope for mailing. If you want to help them, two hole punch them at the top and use the same two hole ACCO fasteners they use anyway.

Similar instructions for the information you send for your beneficiary to present at interview. Don't use a notebook/binder. It won't fit through bank teller type windows between the applicant and officer. If you want them organized and easy to find, use a $5.00 accordian file from any discount store.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

My i-130 was sent before I found the nice step-by-step checklist on this site so everything was in random order, no cover sheet, and all just thrown loosely into the envelope. On the i-129, I had everything in order with a cover letter, but still all just loosely placed into a plastic bag (that was when the snow storms hit the northeast), then the envelope. I wouldn't worry much about this issue, I think it's more important you just send it in with the requested info ASAP so you can get "into line", it's a long wait.

I don't think it really matters as long as its neatly organized & labled. I don't think it matters where the binding is (top or left side). My understanding is the people who process the application will take it apart anyway (this is why its important to organize and label).

For our application, I submitted everything in a 3 ring binder which had colored dividers, and a color coded table of contents. When I was thinking about organizing the application, I was really thinking more of my fiancee. I sent him the exact copy (originals actually) of what I sent to USCIS. I wanted to make sure everything was easy for him to look up and add or remove papers as necessary.

I punched 2 holes at the top and used the ACCO fastener. It worked great!

I decided against tabs because I thought it was too much - however, I did use a few cover letters for separation.

I'm a big fan of paper clips and binder clips. I have had my AOS package and removing conditions package returned to me due to various reasons and it was all rearranged the way they want it. I would not send in a 3 ring binder with page protectors, IMHO.
