Is anyone else having issues with dialing a UK mobile phone? We haven't been able to get through to any UK mobile phones recently (i.e. within the past month or so).

We are dialing as follows:

011 44 7XXX XXX XXX.

Calls to landlines don't seem to be a problem. Are we missing something?

In case it matters, we are trying to call people in Reading.

Please let me know if you have any tips..

Thanks

It doesn't matter where the people are located in the UK since mobiles here don't use area codes.

It sounds like you're doing the right thing, i.e. lopping off the zero at the beginning of the number. Have you tried dialing the number with the zero?

Could be your phone company is blocking these calls for price reasons, perhaps you should call whoever provides your long distance? I call people's mobiles in the UK every day from work and apart from the outside-extension thing, I dial them exactly as you did.

Thats how I dial them too, the only time it didn't work for me is when the company had that option closed off for price reasons

I sometimes have trouble reaching my guy's mobile when I go through 10-10-987. Sometimes it takes three or four tries.

Not that this helps at all -- just more anecdotal information.

Thanks for the helpful responses - I guess our phone card company changed their policy re: making calls to international mobile phones so now the calls don't go through. Our card is UNI - does anyone have a recommendation for a similar phone card that allows international mobile calls? With our UNI card, we just call a local number, enter our pin, then dial the int'l number. it also gives us an option to dial 1-800 number if we aren't in a local area.

We don't have access to Skype because we are living in the dark ages with dial-up.

I would recommend Onesuite:

http://www.onesuite.com/

Although I personally use Skype these days myself, I used OneSuite for a year or so and was very happy with the service and cost.

Thank you for the recommendation. I compared OneSuite.com to Nobelcom.com (recommended on another forum), and the rates are as follows:

Onesuite - local number (US) to mobile phone (UK) = 0.175 $/minute

Nobelcom - local number (US) to mobile phone (UK) = 0.099 $/minute

So I am going to try nobelcom - I will post if there are problems.
