Quick question. I am trying to fill out my I-864 forms but there is one question that am having bit of trouble answering. On #23, my current individual annual income? Do I put how much I have made so far or how much I did last year when I filed my income tax? Thank you..

Ack... that's not what I did, someone else told me to calculate what this year's expected income would be and to use that on line 23. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...rt=#entry898520

They issued us an RFE for the I-864 so I'm hoping it wasn't for filling in that line incorrectly :(

It is easy to use the W2, and 1040 from previous year to prove the number on the I-864 when you use the prior year's gross income.

You can also use what ever your employer states on the employer letter on line 23.
Basically, your employer letter should state "To whom it may concern: (first name, last name) has been employed

full-time with the XYZ Company since 200_ as a (name of your job), and is an employee in good standing with an

annual salary of $XXXX. Signed, John Doe, Supervisor (or whatever title)" The letter should be on company

letterhead.

Take your current paystub and multiply it by 26 if you get paid every two weeks, multiply it by 52 if you get paid weekly, and/or multiply it by 12 if you get paid monthly. This is your CURRENT annual income. You will have your paystubs as proof of earnings. You will also need to keep your tax returns for prior years proof of earnings.

Ah ok..sorry, I didn't realize you could use either this year's expected income or last years income as long as you provided evidence of how you came up with the number you put on line 23.

My RFE is probably for something silly like forgetting to put N/A in an empty column ( I hear they are very picky about that.)

Sorry for the accidental hi-jacking of your thread!

I won't be putting last year's income since this year I will be making a lot more. I'll be taking my weekly earned amount and multiply it by 52 to get my annual salary. The pay stubs and employment letter will back up the number I put on the I-864 form.

For most people the simplest answer is to put down last year's W2 income as the current. Particularly for those who didn't earn enough last year to qualify, annualizing this year's current income is perfectly acceptable if it can be documented. One method not yet mentioned is to take the hourly wage times 2000.

When there is a substantial difference between last year's taxes and your stated current income, it is good to offer a short explanation. It could be as simple as, "I took six months off last year to visit my spouse in her home country and only recently returned to full time work. My current annual salary is $X. Employer letter and most recent pay stub enclosed."

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

djturbo,

Neither. Look at your most recent pay statement to determine your present salary and then multiply by the appropriate factor to determine your annualized income. If your pay statement shows an hourly wage, and you work a standard 40-hour work week, then multiply your hourly rate by 2080.

Only if you are self-employed and have no other way of documenting your current income should you give your last year's tax return income as your current income. Tax return information is requested separately in question 25.

Quick question. I am trying to fill out my I-864 forms but there is one question that am having bit of trouble answering. On #23, my current individual annual income? Do I put how much I have made so far or how much I did last year when I filed my income tax? Thank you..

YuAndDan,

Wrong. That number would be entered for question #25. Question #23 asks for current income, not last year's income.
