Medical today

Hi all,

Well after a bit of a hectic morning (had to pick up copies of my medical records from local Doctor's, and get train to London), I managed to find my way to Knightbridge Doctors at Bentinck mansion. The map provided was v clear so I had no problems getting there after taking the tube from Waterloo. I got there about 11:10 (appointment was at 11:30), and filled out the extra questionnaire etc. When I handed in the US size passport photo, I was told by the receptionist "That might not be the right size", even though I'd got it taken at somewhere which claimed to do US size passport photos Luckily, it was accepted - the other thing was that I don't remember reading in the instructions that you need to bring the Embassy appointment letter to the medical, which I did anyway which was just as well as they needed to take a copy of that.

Shortly after sitting down, a nurse came in, we went through my vaccination records, and I got the MMR jab (I'd had similar ones before, but needed this one specifically). Chest X-Ray etc went fine, after another few minutes of waiting I saw the Doctor. Regarding the Tobacco question, I had to bring a typed up document detailing my usage (which was purely social/special occasions). Due to having childhood asthma I did the "breath test" as I call it, and got a v good score, indicating as my Doctor had said, that I'd grown out of it.

The Blood sample was taken, and I then had the joy of trying to pay with my credit card (which was buried deep in my wallet) whilst imitating the one-armed Bandit. 10 mins or so of wandering round the street with my arm kept straight, and I was fine. Met up with a friend for a quick spot of lunch at Waterloo, and then it was back to home and some work!

Overall, it was very smooth and quick, and I'm confident there should be no problems! Best of luck to everyone else waiting for their medicals

Yep -- we were surprised too. The receptionist took a look at Bruce's US size photo and asked if we had "something smaller". Huh??? She showed us the medical form and sure 'nuff, the space for the photo was UK passport size. She told us she'd cut the photo down to size. I said I was a smidge confused because the instructions said we'd need a US size. She just chuckled.
