Ok, so the embassy received packet 3, and just sent an e-mail that my SO has an interview date of 13 June. We were hoping to have the interview after I arrived in Turkey on the 21st. I'm relieved the papers seemed in good order and that they didn't request additional info, but I really need to be at the interview.

Omer's English is so so, but I believe if they see how well we communicate together, we will have a much better chance of approval.

In the cover letter we requested late June early July, but they gave us June 13.

Additionally, Omer promised his boss to work at the new restaurant until June 21. Taking two days off would be a bit of a problem.

The website at Ankara says to call or e-mail or fax to reschedule. But their original e-mail says we really need to keep the appointment date of June 13.

Has anyone ever rescheduled? Any ideas of what we might say?

Thanks!

Christine

I really do not know how the Embassy in Turkey works, but usually, when you reschedule an appointment you have to wait a lot for a new interview date.

You should try to call the Embassy and ask them what happens if you want to reschedule the interview, what is the earliest appointment you can get.

Good luck....and Congrats

Congrats on the interview Phila-

Is there any way that you can go to Turkey a week earlier? Too, do you think Omer's boss will understand if he talks to him about how important the interview is and allow him the time off? Perhaps Omer can "makeup" the time he misses at work by working later or earlier if it is truly a problem. I do not know if any of these suggestions are viable, but I would really keep that appointment if at all possible!

I agree with JODO, and say to do whatever you can to keep that date & attend both. Not sure how things work with the embassy in Turkey, but from what I've heard, the reschedule might delay you several weeks. Nevertheless, call/email the embassy to ask if you reschedule what your new date might be. Since it's still early, they may just give you the 21st like you had wanted.

Definitely make the phone call to ask about it... but maybe you could reschedule his work and your flight for something so important. I would hate to have you guys end up waiting longer for an interview date. Best of luck to you both!!! Oh and let us know what the outcome is.

My wife(then fiancee) had an interview scheduled in Montreal for mid November. She emailed the consulate to see what the possibilites would be to have it changed for mid December when I was visting. They gave her that date without her saying she wanted it. Mind you, she had a request in for an interview for December. We would've liked it much earlier but as things were being pushed back we wanted that time so we could go together. It doesn't hurt to ask.

The conuslate might tell you that the petitioner doesn't need to be present. She said it was more because of transportation than anything, I think.

Thanks for all of the positive wishes!

An update,

I cannot move my flight any sooner- or I will lose my job. I teach high school and have to administer and grade final exams. I have to submit final year grades on 18 June. Even though I am flying out the 20th and arriving the 21- it would be impossible to get from Istanbul to Ankara (8 hours by train) for the 22. The earliest would be the 25 June (a Monday)

In terms of Omer- he has a really good job at a posh restaurant/club. And, they are closing the winter restaurant and opening the summer restaurant. They usually lay off a ton of staff, as Istanbul empties out in the summer. His boss allowed him to stay on, and needs him to work through the 21st.

Yes, technically, he could quit- but they wouldn't hire him back to work late Aug, Sept and Oct as he planned to earn more money to move here. (He makes double what a teacher does there- and really needs to keep this job)

So, we decided to write a hardship letter explaining these factors, and request a reschedule for anytime after 24 June.

I am there for 8 weeks this summer- surely it can't go past that? If so, we figure since Omer is not planning on moving here until October anyway- he will be more equipped to interview after we've spent a summer together. (His English will have improved immensely)

Our current issue- is that he never received the approval appointment e-mail as they mistyped his e-mail address. I sent in a request for this to be fixed.

Oh my, I will be so happy when this is over and we can move on to the next chapter!

Thanks for listening,

Christine
