Age a factor ?

(L) Ali (L) and I were talking this morning and we think that our case has taken this long because of our age.

I am 21 he is 24. However, when I applied I was 19 and he was 22. As I have gone through this site I notice there are not alot of people as young as we are. Do you think our age is a factor ?

Neither of us have been married or divorced, this is our first relationship, we have no children. So the only thing we have against us we think is our age. However, our age is not that young for our culture. In the middle east most brides and grooms are in their early twenties. So this is not unusual. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Your ages should not be a factor per se... you are both of legal age, and there is not a considerable age difference between you.

But of course you'll need to meet the income requirement to sponsor an immigrant... this is the biggest difficulty some of the younger couples have. If your job/salary history isn't enough, you'll need a co-sponsor who does meet or exceed the 125 % of poverty level guideline -- you probably know that already.

But your ages will not be a problem.

Best of luck to you both for a bump-free ride !

I have an income .... I am not rich but do have money in the bank. I did need a co-sponser and my parents happily did it. My parents are well off and own properties and etc. So really think that our age doesn't matter ? God, I hope so. If I was the consulate I would look at a young couple and think, "They are starting their lives with being apart and all this paperwork (i.e. headaches) ... they must be head over heels in love to withstand all this for each other". But that's just me. :D

I agree with MK, I think the fact that your case is being held has nothing to do with the age. I remeber you said you case has been in process for 2 years now, have you contacted the embassy in Lebanon?

I have to say as long as of legal age and can meet the income requirements you are fine. Something else is in the mix on why the case is taking so long. Good luck on the rest of your journey.

I contacted the embassy in Lebanon and they said they cannot do anything for me because the NVC has not sent the paperwork to them. This was a couple months ago. NVC says they will not send the case to the embassy until an interview has been set.

Which brings me back to the original question of why won't NVC set an interview date ? Please senator help me. She said she sent a letter last week (on the 14th to be exact) .. I have yet to recieve it. Maybe I will call NVC on Thursday and they will say we have an interview set for April and everything will be great. I don't want to get my hopes up ... but what else can I do ? Seriously is there something I am overlooking or failing to do ? I have done eveything in my knowledge and power.

 Sorry to complain and gripe but the more I type the better I feel. I think I am just nervous because on Thurs. I will find out if he got an interview for April or not.here something I am overlooking or failing to do ? I have done eveything in my knowledge and power.

LB - I think, but I could be wrong, that the NVC does the background checks prior to sending the paperwork to the emabassy in Lebanon. I don't think that set the interview date, someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I have heard that being from the middle east can sometimes make the process longer due to racial profiling. I anticipated that I may have the same problem with my fiance. They might be trying to verify some of the information that was given to them in your paperwork which can be difficult sometimes. I know you are in California, which senator are you contacting?

my USC fiance is 22 and I'm still 21.. we started our k1 petition last year and received noa1 dec 8 and noa2 march 10, 2006.. i don't think age is a problem there as long as you're already in the legal age requirement. what service center are you at? the average days waiting for approval in CSC is 94 days.. try calling them.

LB, why don't you try contacting Elaine Alquist, I have heard many good things about her and she is PRO-immigration and has a soft spot for love stories, at least thats what the rep in her office told me one time.

BTW, I was looking on the NVC website and I found some interesting information. They have 2 sets of instructions, one set is for certain countires (Lebanon is one of them) and they other set is for everyone else. I'm not sure what this means, and I didn't check to see if there was a difference in documents

but maybe you call the NVC and find out why Lebanon is on a different list.

Age only becomes a factor when:

  • the age difference is considerable
  • CO considers the age difference "unusual" (commonly, "woman older than husband") as in the case of AjazBashir (though in that case, the CO--in Delhi--should have known that this is NOT uncommon in Northern India)

L_B, the only headaches I foresee in yours are processing time (at CSC/NVC) and interview.:D
