looking at the website the addresses seem to be correct. for the certifcado judicial you don't need anything other than making the appt by phone, paying the 28,900 pesos, cedula and 2 3X3 pics. my wife went to foto japon and they said that the 3X4 size with blue background is ok.

as for the migratorio, from the website it says that you need to make a written request explaining the info needed and for what, along with copies of cedula, passport, payment

I have one question for the people who have done this before. I read on the DAS website that the certificado judicial has to be done at the DAS building in Paloquemao Calle 17a Carrera 27 and that the certificado migratorio can be done at Calle 100 # 11b-27, is this right? 2 different locations in Bogotá for the DAS documents?

Also, do the applicants have to bring anything from the embassy or NVC in order to get these documents? Or can they just go in and get them?

Hi Diana, Thanks for the DAS link. Looks like info. only, too bad you can't apply directly from there...

We have not done it yet but are in the process of getting both reports now..

First, my wife has learned that the Certificado Judicial can be done from any DAS office. She has made the trip twice in 2 days and was told

to return tomorrow (3rd visit) for the Certificado Judicial.

The other can be done remotely as well but you need to call a number at 8:30 am sharp in the am. They are EXTREMELY rude, we

are going through the process now, you need photos, need to go to a bancafe office and pay a fee, etc... the forms go to Bogota.

We were told it takes 15 days to receive the document.

When I get more specifics I will let you know.

Best,

George & Leydi

George, did your wife tell you how much she had to pay for those?

I'm pretty sure we're going to have to send all those documents to the NVC since it seems they changed the process. Are you guys also sending the certificado migratorio to the NVC along with its translation? Or just the certificado judicial?

Hi Diane :)

Sorry I don't recall exactly how much, it was around $20???

I want to send both to NVC but if we have to wait too long for the "migratorio" I will not send that as I do not want to delay the case by waiting on that. I'll have the certificado judicial and other papers in a few days so I can send in the package when ready... I want a date at the embassy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not gonna put off sending in the package only for the "secondary" migratorio document. If NVC really wants its I can send it to them if they ask later...

Can we go to the Embassy yet and get our visas???? Can we? Can we??? :innocent:

Cheers!

George

If there is a change (and I'm not at all sure that there is), then you're probably not going to know until they send you the DS-230 package when your IV fee bill shows up as being paid in the system (i.e., a good month -- or at least it used to be -- after you pay the IV fee bill you're about to receive).

Given that the embassy does not require English translations, I'd be kind of stunned if all of a sudden one has to send the certificados and DAS stuff to NVC. Much easier for the embassy to assess these things because they're more familiar with them.

Although it has always asked for everything, the most recent packet 4 from the embassy still indicates that they expect the docs to be brought to the appointment as part of packet 4 along with the photos and the medical exam: http://bogota.usembassy.gov/wwwfcivappointment_temp.pdf. That might not mean anything since the list includes things that have always been sent to NVC, but again, the only way you will know for sure when NVC sends you the DS-230 package.

I'm still doubtful, though. The anecdotes of people being sent home must have to do with the spouse in Bogota not getting all of his or her ducks in a row -- if one didn't send the required docs with the DS-203 Part I to NVC, they'd never complete the case and send it to the embassy to begin with.

Meh

I agree that unless this can be pinned down by somebody soon then one of you guys is going to have to be the guinea pig and wait to receive the actual package from NVC and let everyone else know what it says. I feel for everybody going through this right now with all the confusion and conflicting information out there. Has anybody put a call in to the embassy about this? Through last month I was able to call between 2-4 pm Bogota time on Mondays and Wednesdays and speak with someone in the Immigrant Visa unit. At times it was virtually impossible to get through. I saw somewhere on here that might have changed, but I would still try to call or send a fax if necessary.

I agree with that also. They would never get the appointment if NVC did not have what was required.

We got this new info from jediknight (JK) since his DS-230 packet was requesting police certificates as well. I also read on a different post that the NVC has changed the rules as of 04/01/07, where the documents don't need to be taken to the embassy but submitted directly to the NVC. It also changed for other countries like the Ukraine.

And as far as phone calls, Bogotá is no longer taking any phone calls. It all must be faxed in. Again, as per JK posts.

I guess time will tell.

clarification, i haven't received the ds230 yet so i cannot confirm what exactly is being requested. i am only going by what the state dept website is listing here http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3176.html and by what the cs reps have told me on 3 separate calls made to them telling me that the required docs have changed.

Hmm, note that the info on the state department website, while it initially appears to be country-specific (because of the drop-down list of embassy posts), is actually not country-specific. Also, I wouldn't always trust what the NVC reps say unless it pertains specifically to a question involving one's individual case (e.g., is my I-864 fee in the system?).

The worst that would happen if you self-generate your DS-230 Part I package and send in just the usual passport bio info page, etc., is that you would find out no later than the following week that more is actually needed when you receive the actual DS-230 package from NVC. Then presumably you would just have your spouse DHL the other stuff up to you (which you would have to have done anyway) and you would lose no more time than if you actually had just waited for the actual NVC package to begin with. That, of course, is assuming they are now actually requiring the additional docs, which I'm not convinced is the case.

Unfortunately, it's an unknown situation for all of us. The bad thing about it is getting the translations for the papers we are assuming the NVC will be requesting. One thing is to have everything ready and another thing is getting the translations along with it. To play it safe, my husband will not only be sending me the documents listed on the DOS web site but translations as well.

Nothing from the US spouse is needed.

We received the judicial after 3 visits to the local DAS.

We just sent the application paper to Bogato for the migratorio after filling it out and getting it stamped

from the local DAS office.

Hi James,

You make an excellent point and you also provided a sound alternative.

If the BC, Colombia Marriage & DAS papers ARE sent to the NVC and the rules have NOT been changed...

their is no guarantee the NVC will forward them to the Embassy, and you will have lost your documents

and will need to get them again!

I suppose at this point we should begin to "lay odds" on which method is correct. ;)

And yes, it is well said, somebody needs to post the DS-230 instruction package when they get it! :innocent:

Otherwise this is still all speculation.

Cheers!

james, while there might not be different instructions for each specific country, the NVC has two basic sets of instructions: One for Standard Post Processing and one for Appointment Post processing. as I stated in my earlier post, some consular posts have the NVC process the documents and send out interview appointment letters and for other countries the civil documents are turned in to the consulate and the consulate mails out the appointment letters.

Selecting BGT (Bogota) from the list directs you to the Appointment NVC Processing Instructions which requests that all civil documents be sent to NVC.

Selecting some other countries, BNK-Bangkok for example, will direct you to the Standard NVC Processing Instructions which tell you not to mail the civil documents to the NVC.
