Am I being paranoid or did anybody else notice that most of the returned petitions are from Morocco????? Hmmmmm....

well it certainly is a high fraud country. and imagine how many people are passed/returned that aren't on vj!!! doesn't mean you should be paranoid or not. only you and your fiance know the validity of your case or not and what red flags you hold. you certainly do have a right to be concerned...i hope it works out the best for you.

Hey MK! I'm a newbie here. My husband recently had his 601 interview on June 12 after being on AR since Feb of 2006! We are currently waiting for his file to be received in Rome. Not sure how long it will take from there.

By the way, is it your SO that is from Palestine? Where from? My husband's family are from Abassan. They fled to Morocco in '68. My husband was born in Morocco and they are all still living there, so that is why he is going through the Moroccan Consulate. I don't know if his being Palestinian is what has caused so much delay.

Yes, my husband is from Palestine, born and raised in the West Bank. He is from a town in the Jenin district. I asked him where is Abassan, but he didn't recognize that name. He thought maybe it is Besan ? (part of what is now Israel.)

I don't think your husband's heritage is reason for extra scrutiny per se. Does he hold Moroccan citizenship and passport ? If so, the State Dept. will consider him a Moroccan national. Has he ever even been to Palestine ? Unless he has traveled there, or to "red flag" destinations, I don't see how it would affect his case.

Ok trying to understand your story -- it seems you need a 601 waiver to file for Adjustment of Status ? Were you married here or in Morocco ? Did your husband have an overstay on a previous visa ? And is he here now or in Morocco ?

That's a really long wait you have been dealing with -- sorry for that. Hope you get your case concluded very soon.

His family are from Gaza. Abassan is in the south west part of Gaza, pretty near the Egyptian border I think. He is not a Moroccan citizen. He has a Palestinian passport. None of his family have Moroccan citizenship. They have to file for a resident status every few years and they've been there since 1968! They are considered refugees, even though 3 of Hicham's brothers have been born in Morocco.

My husband and I met and married in the States. At the time, he was here on a student visa. But he had also filed for political asylum. He was denied political asylum, but appealed it. While he was waiting for the appeal, we met...dated for about 9 months and then got married. Our I-130 was approved right off, but they would not complete his status because the asylum case was still open. Sooo, we had to have that dismissed. The attorney we had at the time, filed the wrong papers with the wrong office and the CIS office in Atlanta had lost his file. I swear I'm not making this up. About that time, Hicham's mother became very ill and he flew home to be with her. We did not know at the time about the "10 year" law when he left (and the slacka$$ attorney did not tell us). His student visa had expired but by that time we had married, but were still waiting for the asylum case to be dismissed, yet they still considered Hicham as overstaying his visa!!!!!! I wrote letters and made complaints, but got NOWHERE! So we had to essentially start all over again by filing the I-601.

His file sat in the local Charlotte CIS office for 9 months. Our new attorney had sent two letters of request but the file was never sent. I made to appointments and they told me each time that the file had been sent. It wasn't until I was able to get our local Congress rep to help us that the file was finally sent to the NVC. When it got there, they had lost our attorney letter (verified legal representation) and a couple of other documents. After a few months of running down duplicate originals of these documents, the file was finally sent to Casa. When Hicham had an interview in Feb. 06, we thought that was the 601 interview. We had the blonde lady who was a real nightmare. She had Hicham write his signature 3 times because she didn't believe it was his signature on the documents. They then requested a dismissal letter of the asylum case appeal before they would proceed. I had to track down the court's copy because his file had been lost in Atlanta! That was May of 2006. His file sat in AR for over a year!!!!! We contacted Casa several times but they would never tell us what was taking so long. Finally his interview was set for April '07. He was on the way to his interview when the bombing happened...he was actually on the train headed to Casa when the Consulate called him and told them his interview would be rescheduled for the following week. And then as you know, the bombing that weekend closed the office for two months. He finally had his 601 interview June 12. He had the same lady again and she was as nice as pie this time. The thing that gets me is that everything they had in the file last year was the same stuff she looked at again this time. I just don't get it. All of the delays have been the directly result of each government office. Our Congress rep said we could file a complaint but they actually suggested that we wait until our case has a successful outcome before doing that. What #######!

Anyhoo, we are in the final stretch. I'm more nervous now that I have been the whole process. I guess because we are so close. I just want to see the big fat "APPROVED" listed on Rome's site. NO ONE will be able to contain me! We've been hanging tough seeing each other for two weeks a year for the last 3 and half years. I've gone through the death of my father without Hicham here (they were really close too) as well.

I just know when I see my husband walking down that airport corridor towards me and our little boy, I think I will drop to my knees and thank Allah for bringing him home!

OK I looked up Abassan -- I see that village belongs to Khan Younis district, in the southern part of Gaza but still north of Rafah.

Your husband's story is heartbreaking -- what a terribly difficult situation he has had to face. And I know it's very hard on you as well. You've endured three and a half years of this separation ?? A lot of people have been caught completely by surprise by that 10-year ban, but your former attorney sounds absolutely worthless.

Insha'allah your 601 will be approved very soon. What happens then -- you file for the K-3 or CR-1 or ???

Actually, our I-130 has been approved, so I'm not sure what will be the next step. Our attorney has said there will be more to do, but that we have to get him home first.

I actually had a hard time finding the right attorney for us. I really did my homework and consulted with three, one of which wouldn't take it because it was so "messy".

My husband has never done anything wrong. That's what gets me so angry. We've been screwed by the system over and over!

It's been really tough. About a year and a half in, we almost split up. He was so frustrated with the process and accused me of not doing enough and I was angry because he didn't realize what I was dealing with here in the States. We didn't talk for about 3 months. Then he sent me an email asking me to call him because he was worried about me. I called him right away and we both just cried on the phone. A few months later, I took my second trip over to see him. Since then, we've hung in there. The third trip, I got pregnant (NOT PLANNED...A BIG SURPRISE!!!! A BLESSED SURPRISE!!!!) with a beautiful baby boy. My fourth trip was this past November. It was the first time that Hicham had seen his son. We had been planning for several months for me to go over Thanksgiving. At the beginning of October, my father became very ill and was diagnosed with liver cancer. I was on the verge of canceling the trip. My father didn't want me to, because he wanted Hicham to see his son, and Hicham wanted me to be with my father. We knew that my father was not going to survive, so the time was precious. My father passed away a week after we found out he had cancer. It was that fast! I'm not close to my mother at all, but I was a pure Daddy's Girl. The hardship of not having Hicham here to help me through the passing of my father...there isn't a letter that I could give to shove down CIS's throat to make them understand what he ll that was. If it weren't for having to get up every day to take care of our son those couple of weeks after, I don't think I would have survived it. I ended up going to Morocco about 3 weeks after he died. It was a bittersweet trip. Hicham's parent had been over a couple of times and met my dad and Hicham was very close with him, so it was a very sad trip for all of us. But our son did help to bring some joy.

I wish I would have known about this site a long time ago. It sure would have helped with so many things. I was goggling wait times for the 601 and a link for this site came up. I have friends and family that I talk to, but they don't really understand what it's like having to go through this nightmare.

His 3rd attempt to get to Jerusalem is on July 16th. If unable to enter Jerusalem case will be transferred to Jordan. I’ll keep you posted MK.

Ooooopsie Correcting.... Hoping and praying the third try will be the charm (just like it was for abdounjen.) If not, insha'allah the case can be transferred very quickly to Amman. I know people are waiting a long time for interviews in Jordan and might not be too thrilled about yet another case getting into the line -- but you guys are being put through such an impossible situation. Like "Here's your visa; come and get it -- oh wait, you not allowed to come get it. Oh well. You can have another chance to be prevented from getting it next month."
