EI is valid for one year from date of filing. Just keep filling out your cards each period even if you have a job which keeps the claim open (just not paying you anything while you are employed). This is how Maureen explained it to me.

Ok i think I am starting to be worried here...

I filed for my EI benefits on May 3rd. I recevied the 2 first cards then nothing for a while. They called me up to tell me the cards had been returned to the sender, so I changed my address with them to make sure the apartment was written correctly and also added my married name next to my maiden name. I also filed my cars on the phone for the ones they they couldnt send me. I then received a card covering June 17-June 29 sent it back at the beginning of this week.

Heres what I read on their website for my case

"We have received your report. Your report will be processed when a decision has been made on your claim.

We have received new information on your claim but have not yet made a decision. We are making every effort to review this information as soon as possible.

Your next report for the 2 week period beginning Sunday, June 17 can be mailed on Friday, June 29. It is important to file your next report within 3 weeks of this date otherwise loss of benefits may occur "

Could the delay in sending me the cards affect the time it takes for them to makes a decision ? I thought they were making the decision based on other informations, like the visa and ROE, etc. Its been more than 2 months and I still have nothing. And I jsut returned the last card mentionned on the website.

I think im gonna try to call that girl Maureen when she comes back from vacation ( is that next week? ) cause she seems to know better about K-1 and stuff. I want my money damnit :D

You mean sending a letter saying " i don't need you to send cards any more cause i have a job" probably was a bad thing  ?

*sigh.. I hate gov systems.. I had no idea ... :P

Okay just a sec though.. I thought you had submitted cards to July 17th via the phone? http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...p;#entry1009539 Don't they have everything they need from you until K-1 is finished? I'd say it's just the fact that they are overworked and understaffed (and Maureen is away). They are probably even further behind now. keep on them, call regularly (I called every Thursday without fail). Squeeky wheel!! :)

And.. the information on the website is a "target".. kinda like USCIS wait times.. they hope to do that, but the Out of Country Claims in my experience, is doing things rather slowly... I dunno..

Yeah thats was my thought, now the way it is I prolly misunderstood June for July, which have a similar sound in french, specially when its a person speaking with an english accent.....

But they sent me the card for June 17 the same week so as soon as they got the new information for the address they did.

But see thats the problem with me.....calling...and then they explain me that ###### in english, and its my first time claiming for EI and, and, and.......oh well  I got this fear of the phone!!!! I hate to call and I like when stuff happens the way it is supposed to be without calling, ya know....

So I will try to call again soon and ask to talk to that Maureen, and tell her that she help few of my friends and Id like her to help me as well!

So sorry to hear about the communication issue.. Honestly I hear you (not that I can speak a lick of French) but I know that gov. speak isn't easy in English either. They understand the process and expect/assume we do too.. It's frustrating for sure. So sorry... :( But hang in there, the money is there and they will give it to you, and it sounds like you have done all you can with submitting what they "require"..

Maybe give them a call and see if they can keep your claim open. Just tell them that you're not sure how long this job will last, etc.

So I will try to call again soon and ask to talk to that Maureen, and tell her that she help few of my friends and Id like her to help me as well!

Any $$ yet Mephys?

Omg thats the funniest ###### ever  I just looked here to give some news and I see your question!!!

So here we go. I just received a phone call from Patty. First she asked me if I was speaking french or english because the girl processing my case told her to call me in french  But I told her both and we started chatting in english and honestly she was very clear and very nice. She even told me my english was good :star: So yeah I know im freaking out sometimes....

So she asked me first if I had applied for EAD. So I told her for EAD and AOS and she noted the date ( the end of may). She asked me when I thought I would receive it so of course I cant say that but I told her usually its 90 days for the EAD and that my GC application have been updated a lot in the last week so It might be soon. Thing is she asked me if I applied for jobs and kept the names and stuff. So oh boy! Here I told her about how I am eligible for work as per K-1, but withot the f%$%$ stamp ( didnt say the bad word of course) that employer couldnt hire me legally. So no i didnt send applications officially but i did talk with few people around and i was just waiting for the EAD/GC to start applying. So I told her flat out I was confused and I didnt get that paradoxe yet, and all I did is follow instructions so whatever decision was upon them. So she laughed and started looking at papers and told me flat out she was confused as well with that but she did remember that I sent that 12 pages long instructions saying the K-1 was eligible. SO anyhow I told her I had few friends ( Canada forum yay!! :luv: ) that did apply under the same Visa in the same situation and they all received their claims. So she said she would note that in my case that yes I was actively looking for a job and she understood my confusion.

So she told me I that Melanie had wrote in my case that I was eligible for a reasonable amount of time. I guess it means dont abuse it :P SO i asked her ifit means that I am going to receive $$$ and she said yes since I got direct deposit that I should see it on Monday :dance::dance:

Just reminded me to fax my EAD/GC ( bad girl misa  ) as SOON as I receive it and to fax it to the attention of Melanie and gave me the number.

SOOOOooooooo I will get my money monday for April 29 to July 14 ! My only concern here is that Melanie is supposed to call me back on Monday to chat about the jobs I applied but she told me she would talk to her...so dunno what I am supposed to tell her. But I guess she said to herself that 3 months with no money wasnt fair and I was a sweet girl and since all my friends got their money I should get mine as well..... No seriously I dunno they should right that down somewhere about the K-1. But she told me maybe K-1 are not eligible for work anymore since they dont give the stamp and they just havent changed the instructions yet.... So I said no I dont think its that its more that my SSC says that I cant work without DHS authorization which the same card they give to any non GC holder even though some Visa are work authorised like K-1....Any advice on what I should tell them??

Anyways thanks a looooooooooooot for the help on EI girls!

I got busy with figuring out what I needed to get my SSN and my State ID and a bunch of other #######! And the EI lady was on vacation. And then I got some freelance work to do... no no, not independantly wealthy in the least!

The EI lady actually gave me her email address so I'm going to scan my EAD and email to her first thing tomorrow. :)

I applied for a lot of jobs online.. It's simple, takes very little time, and you can get yourself quite the list in a short amount of time :)
