Question on requirements for Part 2 of DS230

My wife is from the Philippines so we have to send in Part 2 of her DS230 to the NVC along with all attached requirements. One of the requirements asked for is a copy of her passport. Does anyone know if her new married name needs to be changed on the passport before we send in the DS230? (we filled her 1-130 with her new married name) Or does she just need to change her name before her interview?

For those also from the Philippines...NSO is taking quite a long time to send us the certified Marriage Certificate and Birth Certificate (we sent a request in sometime in mid-February and still haven't received anything). We would like to send in our DS230 as soon as we receive the NSO documents and don't want to waste anymore time going to the CFO and applying for an amendment to her passport if possible. Also, do I (the foreign spouse) need to be present for my wife's CFO seminar?

Thanks for all your help.

Jake

I asked the Director of the local NSO office for a letter to the Director of the Main NSO in Quezon City. The letter was hand carried to the Quezon City Office. The information included which "batch" and what date it was sent up to the Main Office. The Main Office is the only one that can actually produce the documents. But it does require a trip to Metro-Manila.

Hi,

If you filled out your wife's married name then it means the passport should be change to her married name then submit a copy of her new passport to NVC.

NSO Marriage Certificate takes around 6 months for them to generate it.

The foreign spouse does not need to attend the CFO seminar.

That begs the question as to why I was able to get my marriage certificate from NSO in less than 6 weeks.

When my wife changed her passport, she did so also before applying to NVC so as to have the papers all correct at the NVC stage, and no worries about changing later, and being even more stressed prior to the Interview. And as the time line was for the NSO, it took only 6 days to receive. She went right to their office though, I dont know if that makes a difference, and it was very cheap she said. Worth the trip to their office according to her.
