Hi everyone,

I can't seem to find any clear information on how to fill out form ds-5507.  Anyone have this info?  Can I have a public notarize the form or does it have to be a US consular officer?

Thanks,

Blue,

I just completed this form and had it notarized at the embassy in Tokyo. I wanted to avoid the trip so I asked them if I could have it notarized in the states. They said it would work with any certified public notary, but that I should come into the embassy to be sure that everything was in order.

Short answer: It should work without visiting. You just risk some time lost if you mess up the form. It is a pretty simple form, but I recommend reading over about a dozen times to make sure you pick up all of the cryptic language which comes standard with government forms.

Intuit needs to make a version of TurboTax for Immigration forms to translate the info into a dozen languages, even plain English.

Please reach out with any questions. I have yet to finish the consular report of birth abroad, but I think we are all done.

Richard
