Hmmm, well I'm totally fine with piercing my daughters ears when she is a baby but as far as the boys and circumcision thing.....I don't think I'll do that. I mean is there a medical necessity for it? What is the point? And actually as the boy gets older and becomes a "man", isn't it better for him to be uncircumcised? There's less chaffing that way as I understand.....but heck I'm no man so I really don't know. I just don't know what the point of circumcision is. I guess when I have kids I'll understand it more.

Some willl say circumcision will help to cut back infection or help with cleanliness. It's optional at least it was with my little ones.

Wow...well I see this post is ever growing and still going strong. Almost 600 pages and this must be like the 4th installment.

I never thought it would have grown so much over the last two years when I started it. I'm glad that it has become a place for all yankee/yardie couples to meet, chat, share advice and support one another. I know I've been really bad about coming in to visit but life has totally gotten in the way. There was a time that I was so engulfed by the immigration process that I guess once it was over it was nice to take a break. But don't think for a second that you all are not in my thoughts and prayers. I have a bit of news to share, Squito and I are expecting our first child in April. I guess another one bit the dust huh, lol. I remember when Rhonda had me at the top of the baby list. We should've put some money on it because look at how many others got knocked before I did, lol. Anyway, just stopping by to check in and say hello. Hope everyone is doing well.

xo,

Mooma Squitto

VAWA = Violence Against Women Act - it was introduced in 1994 and allows female AND male victims of domestic violence to file an I-360 self-petition without the aid of their USC/LPR spouse. No affidavit of support is required and USCIS is barred from sharing the information with anyone other than the petitioner and their attorney. There is a lot of information that you have to provide with the application which is filed at the Vermont Service Center (no matter where you live it has to go to Vermont). More info here:

QUOTE(Tricia B @ Oct 21 2007, 12:17 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
wow after catching up for the past couple of hours, i must start off by commenting on the youtube video. i was in shock to actually see that because i never really saw open gayness like that in mobay. on a few occasions walking through town my gaydar would go off but this is a first for me. my hubby was like nuff of them got in trouble for that and he used to got to school with one of them and beat him up all the time :o i think that there has always been a small underlying acceptance of homosexualty in jamaica, you can't be outright with it of course but they're family/communtiy members (like zeeks) and as long as they don't wear it on their sleeve, is like they can be around.

did one of you slip some of that vj water in my drink? apparently i too am pregnant, i guess we were trying but right now i'm in a state of shock that my life as i know it will never be the same. too soon but thinking ahead and assuming all goes well any advice on where to look for economical jamaican nannies in los angeles (i sense it will be like looking for a needle in a hay stack)

sonshyne thanks for the aos interview details, quincy is on my insurance but i guess i should put him on my bank acct, since he's not working i figured why do that, but i will now. as for the name change i don't want to change my name. i'm the last person in my family with my sir name so when i die so does the family name, do you think that's an accepatable reason to give them?

here's my story quincy is 21 and mature in some ways and immature in others but who am i to talk? he's from mobay, he knows your fiance by the way classychic77 (friend of a friend) and that's where i met him at a local rooftop party my cousin and i decided to go to on boxing day 2004 to relieve much needed stress from work and relationships. we acted a fool and had a ball knowing that nobody we knew would see us. in comes this guy with a huge afro like mine. we were the only two in there looking like that so he caught my attention from the moment he walked in. anyway after catching a break from all the guys trying to talk to us, he asked me to dance while i waited for my cousin to finish her drunken piss in the bathroom. without even looking at him i immediately said no and he was like alright then, which took me by surprise because i'm so used to them not taking no for an answer. at which point i did look at him and noticed that he was cute so i tried to redeem myself by complementing his higrade and asking him to share which he did but he wouldn't roll it so i was like damn he's kinda mean, which was intriguing to me for some reason. we ended up dancing anyway and exchanging numbers, i had it in my mind that it was just be a holiday fling and i would never speak to him after but i couldn't resist calling him upon my return to the us and started looking forward to seeing him when i would go to visit my parents. so we agreed to do the damn thing dec 2005 no romatic stories of engagement and now he's here. i consider myself lucky because thus far he has put to rest every fear i had about being in a relationship with a young jamaican man (money, cheating, age difference) and to think if that night his friend hadn't decided that he wanted to try to talk to my "brownin" cousin instead of me we would not be here today, i always poke fun at him about that.

Congrats on the pregnancy! There must be something in the VJ water.

So as far as how you would like to raise your kids, you may just have to compromise and in some ways raise them the way he would like also.

Its all about respect and understanding of one anothers culture in the end. (L)

 I know one of the "issues" my friend had when they had their baby was that he wanted to pierce her ears immediately after baby was born and she was totally against the idea. I guess it's very typical for little babies to get ears pierced in JA right away. Well, it was a big argument and they didn't do it. Now the baby is over 2 yrs. old and she wishes she would have gotten them done when she was a baby! Now she's at the age where she'll play with them or pull them out etc..

What do you ladies think? Since I'm having a girl, I'm sure this is going to come up soon in my house!

I don't know why there's a rush, yes it looks very cute...but, having to clean them everyday, make sure she doesn't pull them out, get stuck in something, lose them, swallow them, etc etc. I personally would wait until she was old enough to be able to take care of them herself. I wasn't "allowed" to get my ears pierced until I was in the 8th grade....my 1st pair.

With the circumcision.....since I was on assistance then and didn't get "approved" when my son was born, he was 18 days old !! It was crazy, he made no noise until they moved him from the warm table to the cold table.

Marlita;

Circumcision is not medically necessary but it is considered hygienic. The foreskin can harbour germs if the "owner" (LOL) not take proper care and clean it properly. the foreskin can also become tight and when the person has an erection the foreskin does not roll back and causes discomfort and pain for them.

Oh ok...so there really isnt a medical necessity for it? Its just about good hygeine? Don't women have the same problem if they dont "clean"? So I guess if the owner is nasty there could be a problem. LOL!! Thats gross. Boys...you need to shower!! I always heard that the foreskin helped men during sex vs not having it. At least this is what guys said. The uncircumcised ones seemed to complain about chaffing with women vs with foreskin you don't chaff. So why do people circumcise like its necessary. I always thought it was odd that something that naturally occurs on EVERYman was medically necessary to remove. Hmmm....this is really interesting.

There's the link for the "infamous" video. I was so disturbed that I had to watch madwhitejamaican and paleface on YouTube after...

OMG!! Well I looked at that video and it was ok...a bit boring but what caught my eye was the other video to the side called:

Rent a Dread

Well I hope we all have heard of this "concept" as I hadn't until after my first time visiting Jamaica but it is apparently quite common. Its basically the real like story to JA English Romeo story. This video is apparently old cause as I was watching I was SHOCKED to hear the voice of a German woman who once they showed her face I was like :o I know her!!!!! She is a good friend to my husband and his family and came to our wedding, and I know her son and they live in Jamaica still and she is on this video talking about the reason women like to "rent a dread". I cannot wait to tell my husband he is gonna DIE!!!
