It certainly can't hurt to get a "jump on it." Especially if you don't have any luck with the one that is closest. You might have to make a few calls -- hopefully not but, you just might.

Oh -- they know what you've gone through and how much cash you have already spent -- what's a little more????......It's an easy way for these guys to make some fast cash -- and that's all it is -- fast cash. They know you already have everything that you need..... such a shame.....

so true mindy....everything extra that we have to spend is fast cash....for one person the cost might be 60 if they know what going to a Cival Surgeon is all about but for the next it could be 200...it just sucks....

Hi Ladies,

I am fairly new to the board and from reading the recent posts, is it just these new set of medical that are now requiring "genital" inspections? It seems a little intrusive to me that they would do this for men/women. It's bad enough as women we have our regular gyno checkups without having to endure another one for immigration purposes, if they are in fact doing this to women. Why are our husbands being subjected to this?

Just wanted to put that out there, because I just can't understand why they should endure this  . Is it now some sort of new requirement? Hopefully some one will be able to shed some light.

Thanks.

CONGRATS RHONDA!!! Good luck with a girl ;) I am praying for boys :P Thanks!

It's interesting how the doc is now checking "the goods". I talked to Andre and he said that when he had his medical he didn't even take his pants off.

So I have noticed it mentioned a few times before...will your JA guy go to a male doctor or only females?

Tony had his "goods" looked at when he did his medical - almost 3 years ago now. Supposedly, the doc is checking for STD's. I think the doc was male. He's been to a male doc here twice also - I don't think he cares as long as they're a doctor.

It's not new. My husband had it done almost 3 years ago when he had his medical. I think it just depends on the doctor. You know there are NO standards and regulations in Jamaica  They just do whatever the hell they feel like.

Yeah thats the way my fiance feels as well. As long as they're doctors he really doesn't care. I think the STD check up should be done before they get here, not that it really has much to do with entry to the US but just because men really don't check for these things often at the doctor. Actually, if they don't check for STD's before they enter it could have an increased effect on the population. I think its a good Idea.

My grandmother filed for someone like 30 years ago and when he came up he brought gonorrhea with him and gave it to her.

It seems as if in countries like Jamaica and Kenya to name a few, they carry out detailed genital inspections. When I went for my medical in London, all the doctor did was briefly pull the top of my underwear out and glance inside. I read here on VJ about one girl who had to strip fully naked and had a full pelvic examination by a male doctor :o

My personal feeling on this is that they are bound to check people's genitals but only actually do so in 'high risk' risk countries. Makes my blood boil at the discrepancies, but what can you do...

a visual examination isn't going to yield much info on whether or not there's an infection unless there are lesions or warts visible on the skin. if a doctor is looking for stds, shouldn't swabs from the urethra be taken?

when my son gets a physical exam the doctor also looks at his #######. i guess the doctor is just being thorough.

Oh no.....X ray machine is broken. I'll advise my fiance tomorrow is his appointment. Please advise on his final bill. I think my fiance should be okay with the fees...just want to give him an idea of how much it costs with 3 shots.

yeah, my fiance said it's pretty busy there. he said the bill was a bit more than $11,000J. i hope that's the total bill and not just what the immunizations cost. he said he brought $95US for the exam fee plus another $8,000J for shots.

he met a distant cousin at the exam today. he has a unique last name and there was another man there with the same last name. they chatted for a bit about their common relatives and exchanged numbers. imagine that!

so minfay, will his immunization card be sufficient for the aos?

so now that we know what they do to the men, what do the women have to endure? do they have to get pelvic exams?

Wow ...they charged the whole amount didn't think anyone did...

Thanks for all the responses. I just wanted to see if in fact it was the "norm" (Jamaican style). When I told my husband about it last night, he wanted to know if it's always been done like this. Though it is still uncomfortable to consider my father going through this next year (just put his application in this month), I guess it is a necessity. Thanks again and good luck to all who have interviews scheduled in the next few days. :D

They didn't check the family jewels when Craig went last year. He went to the Medical in Kingston.

I showed him what you said Mindy and he was like....right!! If a man doctor touched him he'd freak !
