she insists that my fiance won't get an approval unless we have written letters to each other

Two years ago the only proof I submitted were the phone records, one REALLY bad picture of us (it was so dark you couldn't really see our faces) and one affidavit from my friend who was with me when we met. Along with all the travel info from the three trips I took back to Jamaica to see him. Even though I was freaking out that we didn't have a lot of "proof" we had no problems. Because of my lack of information I made sure I went to the interview. They didn't ask for ANY proof at the interview.

at least you do have open enrollment at your job. my job has closed enrollment. he must be added within 30 days or he can't be added at all! so that would've been a major problem if we had applied for the spouse visa. it's too doggone expensive to pay insurance premiums for over a year while he's still in jamaica with his own insurance. i adopted my son but i chose not to add him to my insurance. since he's considered a "special needs" child, the state of indiana will keep him on medicaid until he's 18. then when that one drops off i can add him to my insurance as long as he's in college. if his current insurance drops him then my insurance will allow me to pick him up.

I was thinking the same thing, but after talked to a few ppl I figured it would be another proof of relationship. Oh well, maybe I can do something else.

oh anna, if your insurance is anything like mine, you'd do better to save the extra money you would've put into the premiums to take a trip down there to see him. my insurance triples when i add someone. then you at least you can gather proof with travel receipts and pictures of being together as well as having some quality time with your hubby.

Oh, I forgot to mention - Tony had his (rescheduled) biometrics appt. on Saturday. It went smooth - just took his pic and his fingerprints. We were only there about 1/2 hour. Now the waiting begins to see if we need to have an interview for his 10 yr. GC

They did not interview us separately. We were together the whole time. I highly recommend the SO to go if they haven't known each other for a long time. Its major proof.

Same here - no seperate interviews. I personally felt I HAD to attend the interview. This interview is going to affect how the rest of your life goes.

....I am so in the same delema as you went through.... Should I plan on going to the interview or plan on going to fly to the US with him???

It really sucks that the visa's are taking so long to get now. Back in the day, I was able to go to the interview with Tony AND fly home with him. We interviewed on a Friday, he got the visa the following Thursday, and we flew home on Saturday :D I'm sorry for all of you who have to choose one or the other.

anyone looking into plane tickets should consider using a charter company. i always use apple vacations or worry-free vacations and i've never paid more than $400. the ticket i just bought was only $241.

How do you find the charter flights? I've looked at Apple, but I thought they only did vacation packages (hotel and air)?? Our upcoming trip next month, I'm flying for free using my Northwest miles  But for future reference, I'd like to know.

I would hope your travel agent would advise you as to whether a one way was more (or less) expensive than a roundtrip ticket. Just depends on the market and availability. I've done airfare for several VJ members and most were roundtrip airfares because they were less expensive at the time.

Yeah, I booked Tony a round-trip ticket when he came here. It was cheaper than a one way. I booked his return ticket for Day #91 - in case things didn't work out and we didn't marry in 90 days, I could ship him home

Does anyone know of any good restaurants in Ocho Rios? I'll be there this weekend.

Spring Gardens is awesome - I always get shrimp and Tony always orders conch! We went there on our first "date". (L) Ruins by the Falls is great but very expensive. Great view of a pretty waterfall. I've heard Evita's is good, but I haven't tried it.

i save all his voicemails too! the oldest one is a year and a half. everytime my voicemails says it's going to delete the messages i resave them.

apple vacations and worry-free do have "air only" packages. there's a travel agency in my town that uses these companies. i've only used apple 3 times, and the rest of my trips were with worry-free. they were usually a bit cheaper.

ok, after the incessant nagging of my mother, i've decided that i some clarification on this: she insists that my fiance won't get an approval unless we have written letters to eachother. i have sent him letters early on in our relationship. but once we got really serious i stopped writing him since we talk on the phone all the time. for proof of a relationship, i have nearly a year's worth of phone records, all of the pics we've taken together, and a few envelopes from letters i've sent him. he has never sent me a letter before. i set up an email account for him a while ago so that i can send him any pertinent info for the visa. he has yet to even log on, lol. if it weren't for our text messages i wouldn't have any written communication from him. since i'm not able to print off our texts, i've decided to log on to his email account and resend what he texts me in email format so that i can at least print them off and include it on our binder. it's not exactly honest, but it's not fabricated either.

so i guess my question is has anyone gotten an approval using phone records and pictures and not snail mail? i keep thinking my mother's advice is outdated since she went through the visa process over 30 years ago (back when access to phone records, text messaging, and email was non-existent).

We didn't have any letters. I had sent him some cards that he took some of them along; but they never looked at them. We never wrote letters of any kind to one another.

I think it depends on who you get and what kind of day they are having. Andre went with tons of proof; but they didn't ask for any of it. Once he tried to open the scrapbooks, the guy said, "boy you came prepared. I don't need to see all that today." He didn't need me at all.
