In regards to Kelly's reply..We got my daughters passport 1 wk b4 our travel date, just had to pay extra $60 I think. I had to go to a regional center to it, If i had mailed it in, I wouldn't have gotten it back in time..but see what ur closest regional center is call to make an appt and get there. We went 9am say Wednesday and it was in the mail Thursday afternoon.

Yep, it's an extra $60 to expedite it.... but just read up on the passport government site. It's 4.5 million americans waiting on their passports !!! What a mess !!

Yea I saw the same thing. I think the best way to have it expediated it to go to the regional office but by mail just do it regular mail. I spoke to another board member and that suggested me sending in a notarized letter, which I will do. With me working two jobs right now it's hard for me to find time, but I will go back to the post office on Sat.

Thanks everyone.

Kelly - With the "status page" and her birth cert will that be enough for her to travel? I'm not going w/her, she will be traveling alone.

Anna - make sure you have another orginial birth cert because you need to submit one with her application.

I'm torn btw sending it regular mail and hopefully getting it entered into the system OR waiting and going to a regional office and have it expediated. I feel if I do it by mail it won't get back in time.

Javon wants us to come down but I can't afford going down then and back for the interview, so she's going alone. She really wanted to go and spend time w/ her "brother" as she say. They're so cute together (same age) and he's birthday is 8/6. He cld me last week and asked if it was true Lexi was coming down. I said yes and you could hear the smile in his voice. It still tickles me b/c he calls me mommy. :luv:

Kelly - With the "status page" and her birth cert will that be enough for her to travel? I'm not going w/her, she will be traveling alone.

The one thing that I *highly* suggest when my clients travel is to have a notarized letter from the "other 1/2" (if his name is on the birth certificate), allowing her to leave the country, etc etc. I have a great authorization form if you'd like me to email it to you.

The airline and/or immigration may never ever ask for it, but .....if you don't produce it, she could be denied, especially with all of the craziness with the passports and the hold up at security.

My sons name is not on the birth certificate and when we traveled to Cancun one time the agent gave me a really hard time for not having any documentation -- meanwhile, she was looking at my BC not my sons --goofball!!

My daughter is suppose to go down in August for a few wks, but I don't know what to do. This is soooo unfair. What about the single mothers that have no idea where their baby daddy is??? What are they going to do??? You know ppl always asked me how was my daughter able to leave the country w/o her father's consent but I never thought twice about it. My daughter always had a passport and traveled to JA countless time. I am so lost.

I hear you Anna. I know where my daughter's father is and he refuses to sign, and I am tempted to just forge his name on the form, cause he's being spightfull. I have a friend who is a notary. I want to take her with mi when we go back. The only other option is to go to court and be granted soul custody. Who knows how long that will take. It's important that she goes. I feel like he uses my time away to make her feel sorry for him turning her aganist mi.

usally its granted the same day, it just depends on how soon u get a court date, and you get the papers the same day.

my son's father came with me and didn't fight it, so for me it was easy

I told you guys.........3UTelecom........17 cents a minute. No monthly fees, connection fees, whatever.....And, they charge you to the second instead of rouding up to the minute every call. We've had it now for nearly 2 years. Best thing I ever did.

they have requirements & not everyone is eligible for it.

Requirements? What are you talking about?

they ran a credit check on me and they want you to have a credit card. they turned me down.

Huh! The didn't do that on me. I do use my debit card for them to take it out of each month. They warn me about a week in advance what they are going to take out and when.

Allright so I found an awsome deal on calling JA. For about 30 a month only unlimited. vonage

do you have hi speed internet cable or dsl? Then this might be the plan for you :)!

How it works is you call and order vonage wright.

They send you a box with just like the comcast box then you connect it to the router and hook it up to ur original phone. And most people get to keep there original phone number. So its not something were the other person would have to have internet. so you make the calls over the internet its call voip (voice over internet protocal). and the reception is clear and perfect and b/c u r making the calls over the internet you get the lowest rates in the world. You pay 25 dollars a month for unlimited calls in the US Puerto Rico and Canada. If you want b/c its the internet you can get a jamaican area code while living in the us. Do you want to keep your USA number?? Alright get a double line then one with your area code and one with a Jamaican area code for 5 more dollars a month. The vonge box they send you can be carried any where with you that you go as long as there is hi speed internet access.

So say you go to jamaica u carry the box with you hook it up to the high speed internet and connect it to any phone. : http://www.vonage-promotions.com/?s=100&k=24 Try it you get one month free!! : http://www.vonage.com/index.php?ic=1&r...001W1&aff=1

My friend from the states whos family lives in JA told me about this he says it really works so we are going to try it. Maybe this will help some with bills.

Kelly - With the "status page" and her birth cert will that be enough for her to travel? I'm not going w/her, she will be traveling alone.

I read on some travel website that Jamaica is letting people travel there as long as they have proof that they applied for a passport - even if they haven't gotten the passport yet. You also need some form of ID that matches the name on the passport app. Like Kelly said, the passport back-up is really hurting the travel industry.
