Cover Letter & Package Organization Questions

Hi,

Two other quick questions for you all. First, in the cover letter, I am supposed to list everything that's included in the package. How detailed does that list have to be? In the template provided on VJ, they simply said "Proof of ongoing relationship" and "Proof of having met in the last 2 years.". Do I need to go into more detail than that and list specifically such as "Credit card bills", "Hotel Receipts", "Flight Itineraries"?

Additionally, how do you recommend that I organize the package? Should I organize by type, that is to say put all credit card bills together, all hotel receipts together. Or Should I organize by trip? That is put all evidence in support of a visit together, and so on? Thanks.

Xin Li

There is a cover letter example posted on the site. Click on the 'Example forms' link above.

I organized my petition in exactly the order described on the guide. However, the service center will pull it apart and organize it the way they see fit, so it doesn't matter THAT much anyway.

We listed everything on our cover letter.

I used a heading and then bulleted the details below each heading, kind of like an outline. For example, Evidence of Meeting would be a heading, then I bulleted every piece of evidence with a brief description--travel itinerary for XX's first trip to..., ticket stubs for XX's trip, photo of XX and XY in...., etc.

I also wrote the matching description on every piece of evidence so it would be clear to the reviewer what they were looking at.

I used the standard cover letter found here and then I created 2 more - one for our proof of meeting and other for ongoing relationship.

For each of those last 2 cover letters I was more specific: Brazilian passport copies, copy of visa, copy of itinerary, etc.

It's up to you though.

11/2004 - Met in Brazil

09/2006 - Apply for K1

03/2007 - K1 approved

04/2007 - Apply for AOS & EAD

07/2007 - EAD approved

01/2008 - Conditional Residency approved

11/2009 - Apply to remove conditions

02/2010 - Permanent Residency approved

11/2010 - Apply for Citizenship

03/2011 - Citizenship approved

07/2011 - Moved back to Brazil

I followed the cover letter on the site. Later in the packet, I put a cover letter just for the proof of relationship. It was a list of all the items of evidence along with their dates.
