transit visa for mexico

We found a really cheap flight that goes to jfk and then come to atl for 700. It has a connection in Mexico City. Someone told me that Mexico is now requiring visa for Brazilians. Does this include transit visas? I have looked on the Mexican website and have even called the Consulate of Mexico in Atlanta. I can't get through to anyone. I was hoping maybe someone on here knew. Thanks.

Hi Steph. I’ve seen in the Mexican consulate web page that if you are in transit and your connection occurs in less than 24 hours you don’t need a transit visa. I would call the Mexican Embassy in Brasilia to make sure.

As pessoas em conexões de menos de 24 horas , não necessitam de visto, segundo o artigo 122, do “Reglamento de la Ley General de Población”, que estabelece:

“II. Quando transportem passageiros em trânsito imediato, se pedirá a documentação que possuem (passaporte) para ser devolvida no momento de fazer a conexão. Estes passageiros deverão continuar sua viagem dentro das 24 horas seguintes à sua chegada, sendo a responsabilidade da empresa transportadora.”
