Police certificate

I already posted this in the I-129f waiting forum , but didnt get the answer I was looking for so I thought give it a shot in this forom . ok here is my question

, does anyone here know how to obtain a police certificate in montreal ,

I calld the R.C.M.P they said they dont do this process anymore to call the local police department , which I did they said they dont do it neather to call the US consulate where unfurtunatly I just resived the automatic machine ,

so do I have to waite for the US consulate to tell me where to go when they resive the pakage ,or can I obtain a police certificate before the visa process is started , and where can I go for it ? and how much would it cost ?

POLICE RECORDS

Inside Canada: Applicants who are physically present in Canada should contact their local police service or Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) office regarding criminal record check procedures. Applicants may obtain a certificate of no conviction issued by any Canadian police service so long as it notes that Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or the national criminal records repository was searched using the applicant’s name and date of birth. Applicants should ensure that the search includes all names that they have previously used, including maiden names, prior married names, or names used before Canadian naturalization. (Note: Because records checks based on name and date of birth only are sometimes less thorough than those based on fingerprints, U.S. diplomatic offices reserve the right to request that certain applicants obtain fingerprint-based searches from the RCMP.)

Applicants who have been convicted of a crime in Canada must contact their local RCMP office to obtain a “Certified Criminal Record Check,†which lists an applicant’s criminal history, indicating the section of the Canadian Criminal Code under which the applicant was charged, the disposition of the case, and the penalty imposed, if any. Obtaining a Certified Criminal Records Check requires submission of a fingerprint chart; the RCMP could take between two and twelve months to process a request for a Certified Criminal Record Check. (Note: If a namecheck by a police agency reveals a conviction record, that agency may be unwilling to issue a certificate and may refer the applicant to the RCMP for a Certified Criminal Record Check.)

Canadian pardons have no effect under U.S. law. Applicants who have been convicted of a crime in Canada that was subsequently pardoned must contact an RCMP office to obtain both a Certified Criminal Record Check and copies of their pardoned criminal record. YuandDan just gave you excellent info to go on. My little addition is.... travel to a suburb of Montreal (thinking Pointe Claire or the like) and go to their police station. I live in Edmonton where the police certificate would have taken 6-8 weeks, so I went to St. Albert and got it in 3 days. Smaller cities are usually quicker. Check the RCMP website for posts in La Belle Province!!!!

I phoned my local RCMP yesterday. I am also in the Edmonton area. That station didn't know what I was talking about. They only know the background checks.

I phoned the RCMP Headquarters in Edmonton- he said yes they do them there and he said you get it on the same day.

LonaD- I would phone a few Stations and ask around.

There are two of us from where I live.

We both went to the R.C.M.P. office, requested a "Canada wide C.P.I.C." it was done right away with just a driver's licence and alittle more personal info, weight, other names....

They have the price posted right on the wall. $20.

Maybe your asking for the wrong thing.

Thank you everyone for the replies , I went to the local police station they where able to do it but with a 3 week waiting period and a 60$ few , but they where nice and gave me another location to get it done for 25 $ and a 20 min waiting period , of corse I went there and vo la got my certificate in my hand , again thank you for the help

Police check in canada!! This topic gets brought up weekly on Vj!! lol There should be one huge sticky in the canada section on this,lol

For 1 thing, the timings, pricing , what the document looks like, vary all throughout canada, even when dealing with the RCMP!! Some u get on the spot, others a day or 2, others a few weeks!! Some are free, some a lot more!! For the most part, ur local RCMP can do it. And even your local police can do it (This wasn't always the case!!) One has to ensure it states on the document, that it is CANADA wide, or CPIK was utilized!1 if one is in the Greater Toronta area, check out http://www.commissionaires.ca/

If you have EVER had a a criminal record, you wil also require fingerprinting. Through the rcmp it takes about 4 months!! I belive http://www.fingerprintingservice.com/ can be a lot faster!!! if NO criminal record, NO fingerprinting, just the background check.

As well soem police dept want proof on why you need it, so bring along the immigration document stateing you require it. I printed off the page from the USCIS website stating it was required, and they were happy with that!!

OK...all I have is a letter from the RCMP that was done for free stating that I have no criminal record. Is that enough? Is there a certificate? Gosh I thought I had the right thing. I have had this letter since Sept '06 because of my job. I have the orginal so that isn't an issue.

But NOW do I have to go get a "certificate"????

If u got it from the RCMP, you should be fine!! I got mine from the RCMP, and it looked like a 2 yr old designed it, lol Didnt look official at all,lol

That certificate will only be good until September '07, I think they only accept the RCMP check if it's under a year old

And as long as it has the RCMP logo and such on it, you should be good to go.

For those who like myself that have been convicted and later received a pardon, the RCMP fingerprint is not enough as it will show you do not have a record, and if you marked on the forms that you do or did have one there would be a conflict of information. If you have been convicted of a crime no matter what it is you also need a copy of your pardon and a copy of the court documents, both of which can be had from the Padrons and Clemency board in Ottawa free of charge, it takes a minimum of 3 weeks

its on their letterhead and the detachment addy etc.....fingers crossed that i have my interview before then....i faxed my checklist to VCR 1 week ago. (my fingers/toes ...crossed always)
