The instructions on the I 129f say you can use either, but you must copy ALL pages of the passport. I'm sure people here have done both.

I used my birth certificate - less things to photocopy (1 page as opposed to 25 or whatever).

Doesn't matter. You only need to prove you're a US Citizen. I only send them a copy of my passport. Whichever is easier on you. I think passort would be better as it shows you're stamp.

I just had my K1 petition approved as of the 1st of March and used my passport (since I couldn't find my BC) I copied all pages as they said and had no problems.

I've seen here on VJ, that people have used either passport or birth certificate and it was OK. (I used my passport, but I'm at CSC...waiting for approval, no signs of life yet. ) :crying:

What I have seen that some people received RFE's for was if they used the "short form" of the birth certificate....they were given a request for further evidence to submit the "long form" of the BC. So if you plan on using that to prove your citizenship, take the better-safe-than-sorry approach and mail a copy of the longer version of the BC with your I-129F petition.

Good luck on your journey.

I/we used Passport when filing the I129F -I now have my international BC which my fiancé will have at the interview.

Getting a new BC is not terribly difficult to get and is a good idea to do so..

Just wondering why would you need an international BC at the US Consulate if you are the american with an american BC?

I sent in BC and passport copies, both mine and my fiance's . I figured since I already had them, it would'nt hurt.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I didn't realize USC's had 'short form' or 'long form' birth certificates. Mine was directly from the state in which I was born - I had no choice in what information was on it.

I think it varies by state. Some dont seem to put on the parents names etc. You would think if it was a legal document issued by the state they could be ok, but aparently not...
