US Embassy London - are mobile phones allowed?

Hi all,

A random question - I have my interview at the US embassy in London next Tuesday and was wondering what the policy is on taking in mobile phones or blackberrys? Can you just turn them off or do they need to be left with security? I'll be heading striaght into work after my interview and really need to have some mode of communication to hand so leaving them at home isn't really an option...

If anyone with experience of the embassy and their security rules could let me know that would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Lauren

16th October 2009 - I-751 Packet received at CSC

16th October 2009 - NOA1 date for I-751

05 Nov 2009 - Early biometrics appointment (taken with no hassles or query on date)

23 Nov 2009 - Biometrics appointment

23 Nov 2009 - Received email stating 'Card Production Ordered' -woo hoo!

You have to hand them over when you go through the security check (where your bag gets x-rayed and you walk through a metal detector, a bit like in an airport) before you enter the Embassy. They give you a little numbered tag so you can get it back on your way out, though!

Good luck with the interview! I had mine yesterday and despite my nervousness, it was SO much easier & quicker than I could have imagined! :)

I do not know what the policy is in London, but in Manila you cannot have a cell phone at all. They will not let you leave it with security, you are simply turned away. Good luck on your interview
