The Japanese counsulet told us that it would take two months from the one in Manila. The thing is here interview is on the 11th of April. My attorney told me that there is a faster way by getting in contact with the one in Main land Japan but the people at the american embassy in Manila were not helpful at all. Surprise Surprise. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I really need this help!

If you could give us more details it would help us understand what you are talking about. Your girl is from Philippines? She is in Japan at the time being? You contact the embassy in Manila for what? Where is the interview scheduled at? Manila or Tokyo?

There is a thread in this site at the forum area go to Foreign Embassy, then follow that to the Manila Embassy thread. There are lots of people on that thread that can help you.

Good luck, Dean

Police certificates are difficult to obtain in third countries. Since your Fiance previously lived in Japan, it would seem intuitive to get the police certificate directly from the Japanese police. Anecdotal evidence suggests that this is very difficult.

Not sure what the US Embassy Tokyo can do for you. Having worked there in another department, I can only say that they probably won't be able to help, aside from Police contact info. You can try to call, but the cost for that call is expensive (some type of fee for service arrangement going on).

If you "Nihongo ga arimasu ka" (speak Japanese), that would help alot.

A tough position indeed. All the best to you.

I lived in Japan for 3 years, and I got my police certificate by contacting the nearest Japanese Consulate. They told me it would take around 1.5 - 4 months, depends on how long you lived there and whether you moved from one district to another. I got mine in 1.5 months although I had lived in 2 different places at that time. Unfortunately getting someone in Japan to do the police certificate for your behalf is not possible (I have asked about this). They would require your presence there at the police headquarter in Tokyo for fingerprinting and you will have to show your "permanent resident" card (Gaikokujin tourokusho), which I believe you have surrendered to the Immigration when you left Japan for good.

All that I can suggest you is go on with the procedure, you might get it faster than expected. If not, then maybe you can ask the Embassy to re-schedule your interview or ask their permission if you could submit the police certificate later on, after the interview.... OR, you could always have your fiancee to contact the Tokyo Police Headquarter..... Good Luck.
