I was wondering if passports were needed for the K-2 visa's for foreign fiances (father) children?

The children are not listed on the fathers passport. They do not currently hold Canadian passports but are CAN citizens by birth.

When they come to the states they will be driving not flying. Their ages will be 5, 5, and 7.

We will have their long form birth certificates which I know will work for visiting, but will they be enough for immigrating?

Without a passport where will the Embassy put the visa? Maybe others will chime in but I do not see a work around..... In addition, with the rules changing for land based crossings for Jan 2008 (I think unless it changed recently) it probably makes a lot of sense to just get it done now.....

YMMV

I actually seem to remember reading somewhere that a passport is not mandatory. I'm not sure where they physically put the K-2 Visas without a passport, however. My daughter had a passport at the time of her K-2 interview, and her visa was put into it.

For K-2's to cross the border for immigration purposes, they will need to show their K-2 Visas, not their long form birth certificates.

I agree with a previous poster who said that a passport is going to be necessary by January 2008 anyways, so getting passports for the children now might just be a good idea.

Good luck.
