Hi Folks,

My wife just got her K3 visa at Islamabad. Yay. Could anyone please tell me what her limitations would be? Can she get a SS card? Does she need to apply for Employment Authorization separately? Can she enroll in college courses? Do I have to wait for I 130? Any responses will be appciated. Thanks

Congrats on the visa approval. Once your wife is here she'll have to apply for work authorization and a social security card. From what I've read in other posts here it's 2-3 months waiting time but as you know it can always vary. Have a look HERE toward the end of the page and you'll find more info.

Greetings!

- If she wants to work right away then she may apply EAD along with AOS, but then if she dont plan of workng right away and wants to know more about your place etc., then she might as well wait for AOS to be approved.

My experienced:

I entered the US using K3 visa, i applied EAD along with my AOS but then 4 months after my EAD was approved i got my green card, that means i wasted EAD fee. However with my EAD card i used it when i applied for an SS number . With the SS card and EAD card along with other documents i was able to obtain a learners permit for driving and eventually got my license. best while waiting for a permanent work!

- With regards to studying? why not? the first thing you do:

1. must bring all your high school diploma, transcripts of records etc. if it s not in English then must need a complete translation.

2. Send all school credentials to ECE. for evaluation. as you mght want other subjects to be credited to the school where you want to sudy.

* please check complete requirements at : www.ece.com as different countries has specific requirements.

3.While waitng for the result you may browse the school nearby and inquire etc.

4. I would suggest to have your green card first to apply for school. as you will be admitted as a resident instead of international student that pays three times the regular fees.

Gooodluck!

yousuf79,

You don't have to wait for I-130 approval to do any of the things you ask about in your post.

The only think I can think of that would require waiting for I-130 approval is your wife applying for her immigrant visa, should that be her desired route to LPR status. But most people in her situation apply for adjustment of status instead.

I believe it should be www.ece.org since when you go to www.ece.com you get redirected to a German building company.
