Tax Transcript

While I won't need them for a while yet I have just received my tax transcripts (for the past 3 years) from the IRS. Getting them was very easy but they sure don't look much like an offical document. There's no letterhead or anything, nothing showing when my filing was received or anything like that. The whole thing looks far to easy to fake. How can this be considered "proof" of anything?

Because it came from IRS, it is proof. You are right, it sure looks weird! However, you could just as easily send a copy of your last tax return with the details. My Fiancee has a 2005 transcript and a copy of my 2006 return. She'll submit the 2006 copy when she presents her documents. If there are any questions, she can show them the 2005 transcript.

Add in copies of your tax returns if you have them. Maybe bank statements for those tax years along with letter from the bank, pay stubs, etc. I do not see any reason why it should not correspond and be considered "unofficial" with all the other documentation backing up those tax transcripts.

That's how I'm getting mine. I was thinking of keeping the documents in the package of the shipping address and use that for the interview. That way they can see the package came from the IRS at least. This way they can be sure the documents came from the IRS.

I used tax transcripts from the IRS and they were accepted with no problem.

Thanks everybody for the piece of mind... I just assumed that the transcript would be some kind of offical form maybe even with a processing stamp and everything. I'm not overly worried about it but it just seemed really strange. I've plenty of other supporting documentation to go with them.
