I know I'm months late here, but Skor bars can be found everywhere in the States. My wife was also happey to see crumpets at Trader Joes. Pesonally, I like Tastycakes' butterscotch Krimpets.

http://www.tastykake.com/ProductLanding.as...mp;ChannelID=73 Don't know if they're quite national, but it's Philadelphia, regional thing. That's one of the things I took with Canada as a gift to my wife's family, along with Wawa coffee.

I just ate some tomato and cheese flavored Kraft Dinner. Not my favorite so far (we have tested white cheddar, regular and extra creamy varieties so far). My poor hubby cringed when I suggested having KD for dinner again. Its his fault though, for asking me to pick up a couple boxes of KD when I was in Montreal last weekend  Little did he know that was all we would eat for dinner for a week!!!

Those candy bars are readily available in in the States. Mrs. Vicki's I've only seen in vending machines and have recently been showing up at my Wawa. I found a knock-off recipe for Swiss Chalet sauce that my wife made(I think I posted the link somewhere...if not in this thread, then the one about culture shock). I thought it was okay. Since she's the Canadian, and knows better, she didn't like it a whole lot and wants to alter it.

As for the bagged milk, I didn't know about the cutter on the container and used a knife, making the hole awkward and had to hold it a certain way to prevent spillage.

I am older so my list is different:

Rogers Golden Syrup

Sultana Raisins for butter tarts

Bird's Eye Custard for Nanimo Bars

Pickled Onions

HP Sauce

Frozen 5 Alive juice

Pork tenderloin

Shirriff's Lemon Pie filling

Gripe Water

Tylenol and cough syrup with codine from behind the pharmacy counter without a RX

KFC tastes different there

and for chips and gravy buy a deep fat fryer and use home made turkey gravy it is just about the same.

However, the USA has many products that Canadians can learn to enjoy once there; and more importantly we will be with the one we love - priceless!

-Clamato juice - if you can find it in the US it will be in a teeny bottle and doesn't taste as good

-Imperial margarine - I hate the margarine in the US - it doesn't melt on your toast and if it does it makes it super soggy

- Canola oil - can be found in the US but not very well known. The US is starting to clue in to it being a non-trans fat thing, but I saw an episode of Martha Stewart one day where her recipe called for canola oil and her and her guest didn't really know what it was. The Canadian Canola growers association e-mailed her to set her straight. Although there are probably lots of Canadians that don't know what canola is either.

ok - good to know there are some places in Atlanta proper that carry crumpets - they sure don't here slightly south of Atlanta - maybe I will ask the Kroeger manager here to order some in:-). I ended up buying some crumpet rings and I have a recipe to make my own - just haven't got around to doing so yet.

Yesterday in the commissary at Fort Gillem I found Dare cookies - Maple and Double Fudge - from Canada - yep, French/English labels. Now, I don't care for the Maple cookies but just seeing them felt very nostalgic!

Aldi's food carries a Shreddies substitute that tastes for all intents and purposes just like shreddies! It is called "Wheat Squares" and is made by Millville. And - there is NO high fructose corn syrup in it (VBG)!

About bagged milk - I actually miss it. I used to buy the 3 litres, freeze 2 and then when I was just about finished the one, take the other one out and it would be ready to drink by the time the first litre was finished. Here I have a running 'disgruntlement' that milk always goes sour before the expiry date and that most stores only stock milk with about 7 days left before the expiry date. Very rarely do I find ones that have at least 2 weeks - and it almost always is sour before we finish it and end up throwing half of it away (or using the sour milk in baking but it sours faster than we bake).

Still looking to find a coffee crisp bar locally as well - no luck yet but I know they are around.

The other thing I can't find are regular ice cream cones. I can find the sugar cones or I can find the small waffle cups, but not the regular waffle style cone - I use the cups but it is just one other small thing.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I must be older too. I brought 4 cans of the Bird's custard and had my sis bring me down some HP sauce about 3 weeks after I moved.

Also on my list are muscle relaxants. I think we're finally getting to go back in June! It'll be just shy of 2 years that I've been back! :)

Our local Safeway and Fred Meyers both carry Canola Harvest margarine and oils. Which was good because I discovered that I really don't like the taste of margarine that isn't canola-based. :)

The liquor stores here sell the big jugs of Clamato juice. Same brand I think as in Canada and tastes the exact same. Grocery stores generally don't sell them, but the liquor stores do. Might want to check there instead...
