canadians Montreal and DS160 BARCODE.

Can anyone advise me how I do my ds160....my lawyer preped everything, but I cannot figure out after I signed my document how I upload it, get a barcode and pay the fee....he sent me forms but I MUST need to be logged in to the montreal site correct,? Im not sure where to go to get the ds160 forms even. Any help appreciated. Thanks

The DS-160 is done here: https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/

Once it's completed, you'll have the option to print it out. My fiance just printed it out, then scanned it and attached it to the e-mail to Montreal.


I'm curious as to what forms your lawyer sent you. You also don't pay the fee until you're scheduling your appointment.
Everything for packet 3 is done via online except for the checklist, but even then you still have to scan that and email, unless he sent a hard copy of everything, but it's very unneeded.

All you do is fill out the DS-160 online. Print out and scan the completed application with barcode.
Make a color copy of your passports biographics page, scan that.
Check off all the items on the checklist, sign it, scan that.
Attach all the above in an email to MTL (the email and the subject format is in the PFD file)
Wait 2hours to 48 hours and recieve packet 4 via email.
Schedule your interview, schedule your medical.


Also, you said your NOA2 was May 14th, that means your NOA2 expiration date is Sept 14th. You may want to file an extension as there are not any interview appointments available in September, and only a few right now for October, they keep opening and closing dates, but at the moment your interview could most likely be mid-late Oct if you're lucky to early November.

Honestly it seems a lot more confusing with a lawyer. I've seen people here more confused about how it all works when they use it.

With way, you get a barcode when you do the DS-160 on this link I linked above. You won't get a barcode to email MTL with any other way.

The initial page should look like this:

First, you click the location that you're applying for the visa for, in your case Montreal. Then click on Start an Application, directly under the location selector. It will give you an application ID and ask for you to make a secutiry answer in case you need to go back and finish. Fill out the entire application and when you are done it will give you a page saying the application is complete and on that page it will have the barcode AND the application number which is what they want in packet 3.

Print out that page and attach it in the packet 3 e-mail. Then you're all done!

Note: If you already have an application ID, you should be able to pull up the application and then print out a copy of the last page if you've completed it, but I'm not 100%. You can also have the option to have the PDF file of the complete application, in this case my fiance sent one to his email and one to mine to ensure we both had it.

If you filed out a paper application, I have absolutely no idea how that works, since Montreal has moved to the technological side of things.

And yes, the barcode is given to you RIGHT after completion.

It should look like this.

This is a SS of my fiances completed DS-160 page. I blocked off his picture (first black square), the application info (To the right of the big black square) and then the line under the barcode is the application number.

I honestly don't know how the paper form works, it may be easier for you to do the electronic one.

im still having an issue....I do have my confrimation page with barcode so when emailing the consulate do I need to send just the checklist and barcode conf/ page and passport..OR do I need to email the entire ds-160 application?

Thankyou, I got it done today thanks to your advice! Now I am just waiting for a email back, then I assume I have to pay a fee here at some point... ..?
