OK, I don't rant here much so I'm stepping up on my soap box. My husband received his EAD in January and has been looking hard for a job. About a month ago he applied at Target, had 2 interviews and then 2 weeks ago was told to "Go buy your uniforms, you have and job and will start on Feb 20th and will be a department manager." COOL! Of course he had to go to the mandatory drug screening and such which isn't a big deal. He called them Friday to verify what time he's to start and was given the run around and went back in yesterday to ask them face to face when he is to start. I was standing a few feet behind him trying to go un-noticed and he turned to me and said "I don't understand what they are saying, do I have a job or not? So I step up and try to understand what's going on. They say now they will NOT hire him because of something that came up in his background check. HELLLLLOOOOO? We were on AR for 6 months for this B.S and NOW something comes up? I'm just pissed.....they tell him flat out to go get uniforms, have him do the state forms, etc and now this? I hate Target! Now I have a depressed husband at home wondering if anyone here will even hire him. He's always over qualified or doesn't have "enough teaching certifications here." BLAH  OK.....rant off. :star:

Sorry this is happening to your husband, my husband too was under the impression that he had the job at a place, he came in to do a 2 hr orientation which went well and then they were supposed to call, but the call didn't come. So he called them, and now the lady doing the hiring was sick. Then I heard from my friend that works there that she was having second thoughts and had put an ad in the paper, but she didn't tell my husband that. She said she wasn't sure if my husband could communicate well enough, and when my friend assured her and even trained job specific things with him, she still wasn't convinced. Finally my friend and her friend there put the pressure on her to hire my husband and she relented, and he got the job, thank God. Even though our case ended up positive, I can see your frustrations with getting the run around, nobody having the decency to call, just being left in limbo. We applied at several Target like stores, and the result was zilch, they wouldn't give him the time of day. Insha Allah your husband will find something soon, someone with some kindness that's willing to give him a start.

Oh this is funny, but not funny.... The same thing happened to my husband, 2 interviews, drug screening, etc. and was told he would start.

It turns out because he had no credit history, the background check came up as a high likelihood of SS number fraud. It is possible to resolve this when you get the papers in the mail. We didn't because he found a better job with full benefits while this was all going on.

I am assuming the same thing happened in your case. Did you get the papers in the mail yet about his background check?

As far as I know, they have to disclose to you copies of anything they received in the process of doing background checks, so make sure you stick on it and get those copies, because they might be doing something out of line.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

We haven't received the letter in the mail yet. Once we get it, darn tootin I will be figuring out what's going on. Hoping this is something simple that can be resolved quickly.

That has to be so disheartening and humiliating. I'm sorry to read about that. Have you tried looking on any local university's or college's websites, especially under their multi-cultural centers and such? On my college's website I see postings all the time for immigrant job fairs and immigrant job training in the high-tech field and other areas that specifically address some of these issues. They can also be an excellent resource for helping you completely know and understand what your rights are if you feel you have been discriminated against illegally in your job search and things like that.

How do illegals get jobs when it's hard for legals?

You do not know already? Illegals have perfect credit and good backgrounds. They use other peoples social security numbers that are stolen. Or better yet don't use any at all. Some place will hire without it. Want to mow some lawns?

I think I was late filing for AOS:

07/27/07: Mailed AOS papers to Chicago mailbox.

08/02/07: AOS papers received in Chicago.

thats easy... the Illegals get that ####### bull sh_ _t under paid jobs that the legals dont want. I hardly think that people that are in the states legally want to work doing remedial jobs or work in the field picking crops for pennies.

actually, the ones who do work remedial jobs and other low paying non-skilled labor are also known as american's teenagers.

Yes but in this case we are reffering to Illegals not LEGAL TEENAGERS...I have not seen legal teenagers working in the fields picking crops or doing hard labor. Im sure those poor people would love to work in Mc Donalds pushing burgers than getting their hands wasted by the pestisides put into American grown crops. ;0)

Illegals doing grunt work is the portrait the Bush administration loves to project. No, there are plenty doing jobs that are very well paid. One, caught last year, was running a government department in California. They're buying houses, and they earn those loans. I know lots who do skilled construction here in Denver. With the courts mandating free public education for the last decade, the last amnesty given in 1986, and in-state college tuition to illegals, many Americans and LPRs will be and are competing for skilled jobs with people who busted into the immigration line.

That's terrible Amy...I am so sorry to hear that! What state are ya'll in? Here in Florida we have a ton of certification programs that make the transition to teaching easy! Has he looked into trying for certification in your state?

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!
