Met and girl and fell in love. Pretty common on this board. LOL

She's married in the Philippines. Years before we can get her here. That just not acceptable so. I will go there, I hope. If that falls through, nothing left I guess but to jump in front of that train. :)

I can't pay the government the $50K or 75K "deposit" to go as a business man or retiree.

But I see I can be a visitor for a year. That's the plan. I understand I can get a visa that will allow me to re-enter for up to a year. True or not? I need to be able to go back to the states for medical treatment. I have lupus and diabetes and I prefer to stay under the care of my American doctors.

Getting my meds into the country. I take 10 to 15 different Rx medications per day. Am I going to be able to get this in? I'm fearful of some of what I've seen about the justice system there. I'm fearful of being falsely accused.

I have a retirement pension that will leaving me earning about 125,000,000 pesos a year. It's not a lot of money in the US at all but it is there. Will that help at all? I'm looking to getting into some businesses there. I would like to buy land but I'm told that is not possible.

We plan to live in the Cebu area. Thanks for your help.

You can always leave and re-enter a country. I think it's 72 hours of being outside the borders, then a re-entry is permitted...that is, at least, with most countries. About the medicine...ask your fiacnee or whoever to go to a pharmacy and bring a list of the medicines you take, have her ask if they have them there. But, I see what you did. I did the same. I moved to Viet Nam because my fiancee couldnt move to me. Good luck.

Thanks... not getting very far at all. :( I even went to see a lawyer. I guess I'm going to need a Filipino lawyer. These seem like they would be easy questions but not many people want out of the US. And you should hear us complain about the place. LOL Maybe some lupus boards can help with traveling.

No, not true on the re-entry. Lawyer said that in the US it's a year, if that's true for Ph. Well that's going to be heartbreaking. With my health the way it is, I don't really have a lot of time to play around with.

I'll check on the medications list idea though. Thanks. I hope it doesn't come to that. I really don't want my insurance company to even know I'm thinking about another country. :) In the US my medications are about $1500 a month before insurance and about $200 after insurance. I tend to expert the worst and I'm really trying hard not too.

I've spent 48 years alone and really can't tolerate the idea that imaginary lines are going to prevent us from ever being together.

There are far better sources of information than "living_in_the_philippines" website. It is a rather "corny" site IMHO.

I don't know your whole story, but I'm sure that there are many in the Philippines with similar situations.

You can go to the Philippines without any kind of visa.

You will be given an "instant" 21 day visa on arrival.

You can go to a travel agent or Bureau of Immigration and have that "extended" for 38 more days.

After the initial 21 + 38 days you must apply for a 59 day extension.

These 59 day extensions are renewable BUT just before 365 days (1 yr) you must leave-and-reenter the Philippines for 1 day (quick trip to Hong Kong, etc.)

There are Americans who have been doing this for over 20 years on a Tourist Visa.

The Philippine Retirement Authority is offering permanent residency in the Philippines for a deposit of $10,000 USD.

To qualify, you also must be 50 years of age and have a monthly income of $800 USD.

There are excellent hospitals and doctors in Cebu City as well as Metro-Manila. You don't even really need a prescription to obtain medication (except for a few controlled substances). Medicines are not really that much cheaper than in the U.S.

If you have the right kind of insurance it might cover 1/2 of the cost. Medical care is very reasonable - I pay my Cardiologist

200 Pesos per visit ($4) and she is top-notch.

Annulment is possible in the Philippines, not divorce, but it amounts to the same thing.

Many Filipinos never even bother to get married but prefer "common law".

There are many couples who are not "legally divorced" but are living together.
