Hi everyone!

My name is Megan and I married my wonderful husband in Tegucigalpa, Honduras January 13, 2007! A few days after we both visited and talked with someone in the U.S. Embassy with DHS who gave us the I-130 form, 2 G325A forms and a list of everything that must be submitted with it. She also told me to go directly to the nearest DHS office (I live in Savannah, GA) and submit the paperwork and file everything. I plan on making a few phone calls tomorrow to find out where exactly to go and I believe from what I've read on the USCIS website that I have to make an InfoPass appointment with the DHS office in Atlanta, GA in order to file the I-130. Does this sound right? I just want to make sure that I make no mistakes because I would HATE to have the process delayed!! I miss my husband SO much! :crying:

Was anyone REALLY nervous when filing and wondering if they were doing it right? I'm really nervous as you can tell!

What is really better? Filing in person or doing it online or sending it in? I would think filing in person would be better, but I'm no expert!

What kind of things need to be submitted with the I-130 form? Like what kind of proof to show that my husband and I have been together since 2003? I have pictures that are dated from 2003 until now. Do you all think that those pictures are good proof?

And the only forms that I need to submit with this package is just the I-130 and G325A forms right? I was listening on the USCIS automated phone number and it said that some people submit those as well as the I-864 form and the I-485 form. Do I have to submit those too?

Sorry for all the questions! I just really need some reassurance and some help!

Thank you for any responses!

You were told wrong, you cannot file in person anymore. You need to mail your petition to the PO Box in Chicago.

See the guides: :guides:

Just visit www.uscis.gov and get the forms from there. then there's instruction there what to do and where to send the form. All you need for now are I-130 and 2 G325A (for u and ur husband). If you have a questions. Just post it here. Good luck

For the proof, photos are good example. You can add phone call log, emails and letters. For the I-1864 forms. They will send you a letter what form you need to send them so you dont need to worry. Just make sure you have a copy of the form you will send to them. And you need original or certified copy of birth certificate ( u and ur husband), marriage certificate and citizenship certificate (keep the originals and send a copy only unless they asked for originals. plus 2 passport photo.

Thank you kyle_lairic for all the information!

It doesn't seem that hard or confusing now. I just have to submit the I-130 and G325A forms and then wait to get letters for the other forms, right?

Oh, and I went online and it turns out that you CAN file in person if you make an InfoPass appointment. So I am going to do that and just go from there.

Thank you for all your help kyle_lairic!

I'm sure I'll be on again with more questions, :D

Where you file depends on where you husband currently is.

If your husband is NOT in the US, you mail the I-130 Package to the USCIS. Section 10 of the I-130 instructions lists where you should mail the completed form(s). If you live in the United States this will be the Service Center with jurisdiction over the petitioner's place of residence.

If you reside in the United States, file this form at the USCIS Service Center having jurisdiction over your place of residence.

If you live in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky,Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma,South Carolina, Tennessee or Texas, mail this petition:

USCIS Texas Service Center P.O. Box 850919 Mesquite, TX 75185-0919

If your husband is ALREADY in the US and the Form I-130 petition is being filed concurrentlywith Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, submit both forms at the local USCIS office having jurisdiction over the place where the Form I-485 applicant resides.

Megan, they gave you bad info at the Consulate. You must file to one of the national Service Centers unless you're in Dallas, OK City and the one other DORA test site city.

Was anyone REALLY nervous when filing and wondering if they were doing it right?
We all were--well, I was, for sure! The stakes are high! But give yourself a couple of weeks and it will all start to make sense.
What is really better? Filing in person or doing it online or sending it in? I would think filing in person would be better, but I'm no expert!

Your only option is to mail in your petition.

Please find the uscis.gov page on How Do I Bring My Spouse, read the form instructions and read the Immigrant Visa Guides here.. do become aware of the timelines so you are not waiting on tenterhooks for something that is going to be out a bit yet.

You know something? I realized that they gave me bad info at that consulate and I cannot believe of ALL the places that THEY would give me bad info! Very disappointing! But better finding out late than never I guess! :)

I am still VERY nervous about filing and plan on doing it this week, either Wednesday or Thursday. I'm sure you're right though, everything will start to make sense once the ball gets rolling!

As for my only option is mailing in the petition, well I found that out too! lol Cannot BELIEVE still that the Consulate told me to go to my nearest DHS office and file it there! lol  Glad I didn't listen to them!

For the page "How Do I Bring My Spouse", where can I find that on the uscis.gov website? I haven't been able to find it. Is it on THAT website or posted somewhere here on the forum? Thanks!

And thanks for your response and help as well!

I have already filled out my I-130 form but I'm curious, which one do you think is better?

The one that you can type online and then print out? Or the one you do by hand?

I would think that it would be better to type your information, save it and then print it so the processing center won't have to guess what you wrote.

Just wondered what everyone's opinions might be!

Talk to you later! :D

I-130:

2/13/07 ~ NOA1

5/31/07 ~ NOA2 Approval!

I know it's a bit confusing.. the Consular staff work for the Dept of State. They don't have anything to do (generally) with the submitting the petition part of the process. What they told you WAS true---about 5 years ago. :)

Good job on finding the page--that will help you!

As for forms, I generally used fillable forms. If you download the demo version of Adobe 7, you can save your completed docs on the computer. Otherwise, just capture a couple of photocopies for your records (I keep a complete copy of everything submitted for my own records.. all the way thru N-400).

I wish I was going back to Honduras soon! All the best for you two :)

Yes, it really is a bit confusing! I think I'm understanding it a bit more now though, thanks to you all! :D

Yes, reading that page did help me. Now I have a check list written out and I'm checking things off as I put them with the forms.

The fillable forms seem really like a good idea but I've just decided to do it the "written way" lol! (Hopefully that won't count against me...I doubt it, but you never know!) I'm just going to make two copies of the package that I send, so I'm sure it will be okay. I'm also making a copy of the check I send them too as well as anything I get from them!

You said that you wish you were going back to Honduras? How did you like it there? It was my first time when I went and I loved it!

Talk to you again!

Thanks! :D

It sounds like you are an organized type--you'll groove on this process then!

Handwritten forms are absolutely fine. Part typed and part hand is fine too.

I used to live in C Amer and have passed through Honduras several times---and made a few trips there on purpose (mmmm, diving). I think it's one of the friendlier places in the region--can't blame you for wanting to go back for more! :)

Happy travels & I look forward to reading of your success!

Yes, I try to be organized! I always put things in the form of a checklist so I don't forget anything. I even did when packing for my trip to Honduras lol!

I didn't know that you can do a part typed and part hand form, I'll remember that for future reference.

I didn't go diving when in Honduras but next time I go, I think I'll check it out! Seems like A LOT of fun! Where abouts in Central America did you used to live? Yes, Honduras really IS friendly and it's true, I can't wait to go back for more lol! :D

Thanks!
