Does a job matter?

Hey guys,

I wonder if I (the alien fiance) don't have a job, when I go for that interview, would they ask about what job I work for and what if I don't have one, does it matter? Would they deny our visa petition coz of that?

No it doesn't matter, I'm pretty sure. I think they rarely look at the Alien's finances, and they should understand if you are unemployed, especially since you would probably be moving soon anyway.

Under normal circumstances it shouldn't matter.

If you have not been working because you've been in prison or an AIDS patient group home, then yes it is a problem. (I say this so as not to generalize.) But otherwise it's usually not.

The income they care about is the USC's and any cosponsors you have. Yours does not come into the equation.

That's true - the USC's income is what is in question.

Plus, those who are planning on travelling as soon as they receive their visa would have already quit by the time they have the interview.

My fiance is an independent trekking guide(like half of the under-50 males in Nepal it seems) and with the recent political situation there he has not had much work lately, in my case I think the KTM embassy will have seen similar situations.

Does the employment history come up at all during the interview (that of the foreing fiance)? We complete so many forms about employment history - does it really matter? Assuming they had "normal" jobs that would not cause a red flag.

For me it didn't, although the interviewer seemed very pleased that I was a law graduate, dunno if she thought this made me more fit for life in US (thinking I wouldn't be the type to depend on the government later on).

Do they care if the alien fiancee (me ) is going to have a job in the US? Can it inlfuence anyhow their decision on giving or not giving me visa? Do my potential employees' offers count at all? do they care?
