IV Police Certificate - Beneficiary has been living in another country for 5 years. Do we still need a police certificate from his home country?

Hello all,

I'm pretty confused about what my husband (beneficiary) needs to do about police certificates.

Here's our situation:

He has lived in France for over 5 years. So, according to the table on the travel.state.gov website, he needs a French police certificate. Fine, we've already requested one.

However, does he also need a police certificate from his home country (Israel)? The wording on the website is not correct (pronoun confusion - if you have been living in YOUR country of nationality at THEIR current residence...) so I'm not sure I trust their wording.

According to their wording, if you HAVE BEEN living in your country of nationality for more than 6 months (as in, CURRENTLY living there for more than 6 months), then you need a certificate. But I feel like He'd need a certificate from his country anyway (he lived there from ages 0-25), and I'm not sure I trust the wording of the website.

Can someone confirm/deny this? Does anyone know?

An applicant must obtain a police certificate from the local police authority:

IF you…

AND…

have been living in your country of nationality at their current residence for more than 6 months

you are 16 years old or older

lived in a different part of your country of nationality for more than 6 months

you were 16 years or older at that time

lived in a different country for more than 12 months

you were 16 years or older at that time

were arrested for any reason

you were any age at the time of the arrest

Hello Alison,

He will need police certificates from any place he has lived since he was 16 years old. Including his home country. I'll give you an example of what we had to do.

My Fiancee is Brazilian, but living in Ireland.

We had to get police certificates from Brazil. We also had to get police certificates from Ireland. We are having to get the ones from Brazil translated into English, as well as her birth certificate translated (both certified), because she is interviewing in Ireland.

What country will he be interviewing at? Is he still living in France?

Hi davisburroughs, Funny story - originally we wanted to interview in our closest consulate (Bern, Switzerland). However, the time kept dragging on and we realized that we'll probably have to leave Europe before he gets interviewed, so a few days ago I requested by email that our consulate of choice be changed to Jerusalem.

So yes, I just asked him to get an Israeli police cert. Thanks for the advice.

Also i read where passport size 2x2 photo is needed for the medical. I am trying to verify this.
