After several weeks of gathering together all the necessary documents, I think we are finally ready to ship off our petition! I am currently in Canada with my husband, so I do have a couple questions. They are either in red in the copied cover letter, or numbered at the bottom. I'd greatly appreciate if anyone can tell me if I've finally got it in the right order or if there are still adjustments to be made. Thanks! :)

Answers:

  • Use your permanent address.
  1. G-1145 if submitting is first with the fee payment paper clipped to it. Then the cover letter, followed by the forms themselves, followed by required documentation, and finally followed by the evidence. The evidence can be in any order you wish.
  2. You do not need his birth certificate.
  3. Large USPS envelope from the Post Office.

Thanks so much for the quick reply.

I'm not in the US so I won't be using USPS, but I assume a large envelope from FedEx or another service will do.

Does everything seem okay? Is it enough evidence/too much?

WOW!!

That is a lot of evidence and organized really well!!

As for his BC, you are sending a copy of his passport... either or are fine as this is used to establish that he is in fact a US Citizen and therefore eligible to petition for you....

(scratch that, just re-read that you are the USC....) looking at the instructions, the spouse (Cdn) BC is not required (I included a copy of the Ontario long-form in mine, just cause :P )

My hubby mailed in the packages for us using USPS and paid a little extra to have it tracked and signature required upon delivery. Fedex, UPS, etc are good options too as they allow you to track it.

One other suggestion -- make a copy (or two) of the entire package so that in case of something catastrophic (lost package?) you will have copies of it all.... and if he is planning to cross the border into the US anytime soon, he will be able to show proof that you're going about it the legal way ;)

Best wishes & great job!!!!

You have more than enough evidence, which is good. You don't need your husband's birth certificate for the I-130, but you will need an original/certified copy once you get to NVC, in case you didn't know. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the reminder, we went ahead and ordered the long form of his BC last night, as we want to prepare as much as possible!

That's a great suggestion about taking our copies to the border with him. We have a full copy of everything because it was suggested, and I'm very happy we did so for reasons like this.

Thank you very much! I worked a long time on it, haha, I appreciate it!

Went ahead and ordered it to have to NVC, thank you! Glad we have enough.

I am totally saving this list and copying it when its time for me to send in my package!

Thanks/well done!

I'm so happy it's a help! I found posts like this to be the most helpful, where the cover letter was copied/pasted and I could fill mine in with it. Thank you and good luck! :content:
