K1 and EI

I am incredibly fortunate that the company I've worked for over the last 10 years has many branches in the US and will have a job for me once I've completed the visa process and am legally allowed to work in the US, however I will need to take a little break until I have a...what I assumed before was a green card but maybe I'm misinformed? Is it an EAD? Because I will not be working for those few months, am I entitled to collect EI and how do I go about this process? Links to older threads seem to be broken. Sorry this is actually many questions in one.

The thing with the K 1 visa and EI, from what I understand, is that one must be ready, willing and able to work to collect it. One is not 'able' to work on a K1 until the EAD has been obtained.

I was able to collect EI because I was able to work on a CR1, but I hear K's are different. Those with K experience will chime in

Yep...as a k1....you can NOT collect EI until you can legally work.....When you get ur EAD...one sends that in, and then can collect it. In your case, it may or may not be worth it! I would still recommend filing for it when u Quit ur job and move down---as who knows what may happen.....1 other person here on VJ was in a very similar position.....But her supervisor changed his mind and the job she/he thought was all lined up....fell through! So Apply for it, and if u need it great.....and if not..Great! But no EI $$$$ until u can legally work. 1 f the benefits of the CR-1/IR-1 visa, as they can work right away once they enter the USA
