We had our AOS interview this morning in the Santa Ana field office. Our interview was for 10:30 AM. My husband and I got there at 10 AM and walked through the airport-like security. At about 10:15, our lawyer met us in the waiting room. I was feeling a bit nervous too as the other officers who were calling other applicants seemed really intimidating. We ended up waiting until about 11:10 AM. The interview lasted for about 30-40 minutes.

We were called in by a nice looking lady who was about in her 50's (Officer Armstrong). She immediately asked for my husband's ID and my ID and passport. She also asked if I already have my EAD from DACA...and so I was confused. I'm not DACA and I told her that. My lawyer interjected and clarified that I am not DACA. We thought it was really weird...Anyway, after making copies, we proceeded to her office and were sworn into oath. Right off the bat, our officer was really warm and friendly. Our interview really did not feel like an interview at all. It felt more like a friendly conversation. From the start, she told our lawyer that my "A-file" is not with her and is still in Nebraska Processing Center (details later...).

The first question she asked me was when I last entered the US and how. I told her I entered in June 2013 last with an Advance Parole. She then asked me to elaborate on how I got that advance parole and what emergency did I use it for. I told her there was no emergency, I used it to see my relatives back home. She was puzzled because she said that you need an emergency to be able to get an AP from DACA. Then, I repeated that I am not DACA and so did my lawyer. She looked in my file and was confused at first. She then saw my stamps in my passport from the AP and realized she made a mistake. Anyhow...So i told her I had an advance parole because I was a dependent of my mom's pending i-485 at that time. She asked me to explain what happened with that case and I told her that things were getting serious with my husband and when we got married, I withdrew my case from my mom and decided (together with our lawyer) to process my papers through my husband's. My husband then made small talk with her and they found a similar interest in collecting baseball cards (LOL). That topic continued on for about 5 minutes.

After that, she asked us if we had anything we brought for her. So our lawyer handed her our pile of paperwork/evidences including our lease, renter's insurance, joint checking account, etc. She looked through our lease and verified that it was our address. She asked us how we met and since my husband and I met at work, she asked if we still work together and we said no, not anymore. I left the company while my husband got laid off a few months after.

Afterwards, she went to go check ALL of our transactions in our joint checking account. She was making sure that both of us were using it and were both putting money in the account. She saw that I was transferring money to our Wells Fargo joint account from my personal Wells Fargo account so it had my name on it. My husband, on the other hand, made cash deposits in our account so his name was also in the transactions. The officer said she was satisfied with what we presented. She quickly glanced through the other stuff we brought like the letters from family and friends and letters to ourselves, 401k and employee life insurance beneficiary stuff, etc. After that, she asked to look at our photo album and boy oh boy, she did look through all pages of it! She was nice to make comments about our photos too.

Then, she explained the removal of conditions process and said that I should receive my green card within 30 days. However, she also said this..."I would approve you right now however, I do not have your A-file. I believe it is still in Nebraska where your old case with your mom is. I will ask them to send it to me here before I could make a final decision on your case. But you should hear back in 30 days or so...could take up to 120 days." She asked if I had any immediate travel plans and I said no, so she was like oh that's okay you applied for AP too so you should be receiving that soon too.

I was devastated. Everything was going so well that I thought we were going to be approved on the spot :( What's worse is after the interview, my lawyer said that that lady is disorganized. She originally works in the front area of the office but then was moved to doing interviews just months ago. Additionally, our lawyer said that he still has 2 clients whom that same lady interviewed months ago. 4 months has passed since their interview and they still have NOT heard from her. What are the chances that it will be the same with us?????? Our lawyer said though that our interview was very positive and our officer certainly did not doubt that our marriage is real which is the truth.

This is making me really worry about how long we have to wait for the official approval and green card. I just want to get this over with already! This state of uncertainty and all the waiting is killing me!!!!!!!

Are most cases the same with every officer????? IF an officer forgets about a case or is not on top of their game, is it the same for each and every case they handle?????

On another note though, I received an email notification at around 3 PM today that my EAD has been ordered for card production. Great! Some people get this notification for a green card right after their interview but I get my EAD... :cry:

Also, is it normal that she did not ask for my husband's passport? Nor both of our birth certificates? Actually, she did not ask to see any originals of our documents. Just my husband's ID, my ID and passport.

Thanks for sharing about your interview with us! That part makes me nervous... I hope everything goes well with you and you get your green card soon in the mail. It's good to hear the interview went so well but then she seems a mess with all the paperwork even confusing you DACA all the time!!!

I got an update today saying that my i-130 is already approved. However, my i-485 is still in "initial review"

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
