Obtaining I-551 Stamp (or other evidence...)

Like many states, the California DMV set my wife's driver's license expiration date as the same date her two-year GC. We filed the I-751 on time and quickly received the NOA. My wife is now in the period where her two-year GC has expired and we have the NOA one-year extension. Unfortunately, my friends at the DMV won't accept the I-797 to extend my wife's driver's license (or even provide a temporary, 90-day paper license) because it doesn't have an "verifiable expiration date listed." So...

My question: Can my wife get an I-551 stamp for one-year if she goes into the USCIS? (I have seen some reference to an I-551 IR6 on this forum, but it is not clear to me if you can just walk in and get it, or it's only given after approval of I-751). If not, is there some other documentation/evidence I can request?

Any insights would be appreciated. Also, if anyone has any personal experiences with this in California, that would be extremely appreciated!

I would go to a different DMV office(Santa Clara Flora vista office). And when you go there ask to speak to a supervisor if you run into any problems.

My wife got her California driver's licence for longer than 2 years. It wasn't based on the expiration of the 2 year green card.

One thing we did was getting a non driver ID as soon as she got here, then later on we used the non driver ID for identification we didn't even show passport or any other ID, not sure if that made a difference

Thanks for the info. We've actually been working with Sacramento (they have a special office to verify these matters), since our local DMV office sent everything that way.

Does anyone have any thoughts on regarding the I-551 stamp...

Can my wife get an I-551 stamp (IR6 or otherwise) for one-year if she goes into the USCIS? If not, is there some other documentation/evidence we can get showing an expiration date (other than NOA)?

My wife got her driver's license before we even got married, let alone before she was issued a PR card. They set the expiration date as per whatever the normal standard is - I think it is good for 5 or 6 years. Her PR Card (or lack thereof) didn't enter into the picture at all.
