Wondering what shipping company anyone used who recently has come over, mainly from Melbourne, but Victoria would be ok too.

My fiance has several large boxes he needs to ship over here and he doesn't (and I agree) really want to use Australia Post. They seem very overpriced.

Thanks for any advice.

I couldn't find anything reasonably priced. Freight costs were $200+ and AusPost was much the same. In the end, we took a trip to Australia to visit my family (we figured two birds with one stone), and had four suitcases between us weighing 75lbs each. I was AOS though, and not K1, so I'm not sure how viable this is for him, or how much he has to take back with him. I figured in the end that most clothes were replaceable, DVDs had regions, and a lot of things could be rebought over time.

Thank you. Yea, I was recently there and brought a full suitcase back with me. He is gonna bring two big ones himself with a carry on. Lots of it is his clothes lol- band t shirts and what-not. :P He won't part with them, and I wouldn't even ask it.

I guess we just pay the outrageous price. Aus Post has quite a monopoly going over there. Boo.

They really do. Their prices are pretty outlandish. And understandable about the band t-shirts; we've all got something! You can fit a lot in a suitcase, though (as I'm sure you know). It took me an afternoon to utilise all my space, but it ended up being 74.7lbs on the airport scale. ;) It can be done.

Also, consider saving things that aren't vital for relos visiting. My mum is coming out this year to visit and I'll be sure to give her a suitcase of more stuff to bring over, bless her heart.

I'm going with Pack n Send for a few boxes when we move. It's going to cost $600ish to send 2x large wool rugs (expensive ones) and 1x large box full of expensive cookware etc. Everything else is being given away or sold because there's just no way to justify the cost of shipping :P

Yea, I hear ya. He is selling or giving away all the furniture and just bringing the things that mean something. Still, it ends up being heavy so large pricetag. But we will look at Pack N Send to see what it might be compared to Aus Post. :)

That is a good idea about using the relatives as mules (hahaha) His sis wants to come soon, so she could bring a suitcase of stuff. I like that idea. :)

I think the most cost effective shipping is going to be purchasing additional suitcases through the airline.

Purchasing two additional bags will be $175 a piece through Qantas (above and beyond the two which are included in the ticket). This will give an additional 46kg/101lb of items which can be shipped, all at a reasonable price.

There are very few companies which do economic air shipping to the USA. This is mainly because of the air handling/customs/inspection charges which are imposed on freight which arrives/departs the US. The remaining companies will not offer any tracking/assistance/insurance/care whatsoever.

There are a few places which do cheaper shipping if you are willing to ship via sea, but this is a 3 month process and it's usually only 20% cheaper.

Friends/Family are also a great way to get the "Australia Only" goodies cheaply, so if they come you can kill two birds with one stone. :dancing:

I thought Qantas only allowed a maximum of 3 pieces of luggage per passenger? and the first 2 being free.
