Parental Advice - Both parents signatures?

How critical is it to have both parent's signatures on the parental advice? My Fiance's father lives in another province not close to my Fiance. It will be hard enough finding her mom to sign it since she never knows where her mom is half the time and can go weeks or more without seeing her. I hope they don't ask her for it, but we want to have something just encase.

Also, is it pretty quick and easy to get it notarized at someplace like city hall or a bank?

Thanks

One parent or the other is adequate most times.

A sworn statement by the contracting parties (you) to the effect that such advice has been sought, together with the written advice given (you say this maybe her mother if found), if any, shall be attached to the application for marriage license. Should the parents or guardian refuse to give any advice or cannot be located, this fact shall be stated in the sworn statement.

Take the statement to a reputable lawyer for notarizing. Present the documents when asked for from CFO to CO at USEM. My recommendation is don't present something of your free will till asked. If never asked, don't show. It can only open a can of worms possibly.

Notarized like in Mexico is done by an attorney in Philippines.

The US Embassy will not ask for parental consent, this is a CFO thing.

You can have her sister/brother or grandmother also sign it or whom ever she considers her legal guardian.

If you can find her mom then that will work also, don't need to have both signatures

Thanks everyone for the info.

Only a lawyer can notorize? I thought I read somewhere that it can be done by a notary at a city hall?

This is for the CFO, we already completed the interview a few months ago. I hope they don't ask for the parental consent. We just want to have it encase they do. She won't give it unless they ask. We had a lot of stuff for her interview that we didn't need, but it was better to be safe than sorry. It's been a long process for us, so we don't want some small detail to mess things up now. She has an appointment for the CFO next week and I will be going there in a few weeks and bring her back with me. Exciting times.

Here is my suggestion. Don't volunteer information that is NOT asked for. Have your documentation prepared and with you BUT wait till the interviewer ask for the document. I am not advocating lying, cheating or withholding information but be truthful with your answers but don't offer items not asked for as this can open a new discussion and possibly denials or delays.

Good luck.

I just wanted to update this... City Hall charged my Fiance 1000 peso for the parental advice notarization and they asked her a lot of questions. That seemed crazy. Then of course they never asked for it at the CFO, so she didn't end up even needing it. But I guess it was better to be safe and have it just encase. They also did not ask for my tax info at the CFO. They asked my Fiance about the level of school I completed, what my degree is, and what my job is. They also asked what her reason and plan is for going to the US, if she will be a housewife or work. They also asked why we waited so long for her to go here, which was due to waiting for her to graduate college. Of course they asked my Fiance general questions about herself. She said some of the girls she talked to were asked very personal questions about their relationships with their fiances, but she was not asked anything about ours other than basic stuff.

There is no way of knowing what CFO will ask for or not ask for, the questioning can be all over the spectrum and I think they decide what to ask depending on "how they read the Filipina" . Glad it was a cake walk for your fiancee.

I agree with what Hank said. With the experiences that have been posted on different threads concerning the CFO interview.... We can only conclude that they will ask anything and it maybe for a document or some far fetch hair brain question as you have witness recently. Just when you think you got them figured out.....

Anyways, you are done with CFO. I think getting the parental advice notarized was still a good move even not needed. Now onto the next land mind. Good luck.
