Two joint sponsors possible?

I was told you can only have one joint sponsor and yourself which seemed weird so I wanted to ask here.

I have no income as a student so I cannot use myself as a sponsor.

I had planned to use my mother but she always files with my father in law jointly. So I assume they would both have to fill out the forms and both submit the same tax papers for the last 3 years? Basically just duplicating all the papers or am I wrong? Or since I'm limited to one joint sponsor would I just have my mom send it in even though both of their incomes are shown in the taxes? I'm super confused about all of this. Please help!

Two joint sponsors are not possible.

Even if you don't meet the financial requirement to be a sponsor on your own, you are still considered the primary sponsor and will be required to complete an I-864.

Since you don't meet the requirement, you can only have ONE qualifying joint sponsor who must also complete an I-864.

If they file jointly then one is your joint sponsor and the other is the household member of the joint sponsor. So you would need I-864 for whomever makes more and the I-864A for whomever makes less.

BTW your mother's husband would NEVER be your father in law. Your father in law is your spouse's father.

Ok I get it, so I'm always the first sponsor and my mom will be the joint sponsor, but her husband will have to do an a form too, but is not considered a sponsor, but his income impacts it? I ask because my mom earns roughly 20 a year and he earns about 12. Together they earn well over but without his income my mom along barely make enough, it's really cutting it close.

I earned around 20 last year but I'm unemployed now.

Also ya sorry it is my stepfather haha, so used to talking about her dad :)

yes then do it the way I suggested.

You =I-864

Her = I-864

Him = I-864A

they need to make enough for him, her, the immigrant and any dependents.
