Hicham and I watched "Hello America" a few nights ago and I wanted to recommend it to all of you if you get a chance to see it. It deals with an Egyptian couple and how they adjust to moving to the US and their new life (or lack thereof) here.

I'll have to check it out.

Majid and I just saw "Hideous Kinky" (weird name, I know, if you read the book you'll get it)

There was almost as much Arabic as there was English, and we both loved watching the scenes from Marrakesh and Algeria. It really made me miss Morocco!

So I guess that wouldn't be included in my 5- channel "broadcast-only" cable package LOL

You can only get it on the DISH network as a special package. That was Hicham's treat when he got his new job.

Twila

P.S. I think I might be resorting to French to speak to his family too!

I'm the opposite. I found Arabic easier because I don't already have sounds associated with the letters. French is so hard for me because it's like they take all of our letters, add in about 20 extra of every vowel, throw them up in the air, and when the letters come down they're in a bunch of 2 and 3 letter words that are pronounced as one long word, with none of the sounds we associate with those letters. I know it really isn't that bad, and some French words I don't have any trouble with, but it has just come hard to me.

I've put off taking my foreign language for my degrees because I'm afraid it will really hurt my GPA. Abdel can teach me French, I guess I just have to get the guts to study it. Right now I have too much to do for my classes to try to learn either French or Arabic but after I graduate I definitely intend to learn both.

Abdel wants us to speak only English pretty much in the house right now so he can learn it quicker. He already is doing great, but he still prefers to read for pleasure in French, and he's lucky the university library has a pretty good selection of his favorite writers in French.

Twila, that movie does sound good. I wish I could find it here.
