Can I marry my fiance in his homeland first on an approved Fiance Visa?

Hi all!

Forgive me if there is already a thread on this topic but my question is:

If my fiance in Cambodia got approved for a K-1 Fiance Visa to marry me in the US, can I marry him in Cambodia first and then fly back to the US to marry again? We were planning on just doing the traditional Cambodian wedding without filing for any paperwork in Cambodia.

Since I will be in Cambodia already for a visit, I would like to celebrate with his side of the family in Cambodia first and then with my side of the family in the USA. I was hoping to visit during the same time that he will be leaving to the US, so that way after our Cambodian marriage, we can fly back to the US together. Is this possible?? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can do something ceremonial, but not legally binding. It can't violate the terms of your visa, which state that your marriage must take place in the US. As long as it's not a legally binding ceremony, go for it. Just call it a reception, not a wedding.

A K-1 is for non-married peoples. If you marry in Cambodia, then you need a spousal visa. You cannot use a Fiance visa if you are married

good luck

If you get married in Cambodia your K-1 is void and you will need to start all over again, with a CR/IR process. Bad, bad idea, IMHO.

Agreed.

IMHO, this is a bad idea. Harpa mentions a couple in this post who tried to do that and got a lifetime ban from the US: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/353669-got-married-in-the-philippines-but-on-a-k1-visa-application/?p=5173049

Have a big celebration party with his family before you leave for the US. Skip the wedding/marriage part.

Agreed as well! Why take the chance? Go back and and have the ceremony after getting married in the US.

Hi,

No, it's not possible.

The K-1 is for a single person to come to the US to get marry.

With a marriage in Cambodia, it would be visa fraud for him to entered on a K-1 visa for a single person when he is married.

As others have suggested, you can have a big party with her family. Leave out any marriage or wedding ceremony.

Don't even try to hide the Cambodian marriage because it can result in losing any immigration benefits because of fraud.

Just don't do it. Others have been burned by this. You don't want to screw you and him over.
