Alien registration number

Hello everyone,

First off I have searched the forums about this topic but none of them answered my specific question. On the G-325A it asks for a 'file number' beginning with an A and also an 'alien registration number'. Are these the same thing? I am from the UK and have visited the US before on a student visa, would I have an alien registration number? and if so, where can i find it? I have looked on my student visa in my passport and I do not see any numbers beginning with an A.

First, yes the A number is it. You might not have an alien number and it is usually allowable to leave it blank. The A number can usually be found on the I-94 given to you at the Point of Entry (POE).

But you give your I-94 back to the immigration officer as you leave the US. So if your back in the UK, you may not have one?

Yes it is the same, and if you do know it, it is best to fill it in. It helps them look up your records from previous visa and can make things go a bit faster.

Did you get a DS - 2019 that was filled out at the point of entry when you activated your visa? - it might say it on that too if you had one. Chances are if you can't find it on any offical document that immigration might have touched then no, you don't have one and then you can just put "NONE" in the space provided.
