I have a question, which makes me not able to sleep at night: if there was a not true information on my tourist visa application (I said i don't know anybody in the US and I did) can it make harder for me and my fiance to get a fiancee visa? I never overstayed my visa, and everything else is perfectly fine and legal, we have proof of relationship and whatnot, but could that mistake may cost me my chance to get fiancee visa?

Lying's never a good idea. That said, I don't think it'll make a difference in this case.

Yes, it can make a difference. You lied on your app. It is possibly a material lie, meaning that fake answer swayed the decision.

People have been denied fiance visas for this in the past.

I've just realised, there is no questions about people I know, only about relatives, which I have not, so I didn't lie after all, I guess I'm panicking more than I should.

Thank you for your quick answers!

Did you not know your fiance(e) when you came over? Also, you could be trying to cover your tracks now.

I did know my fiance. He was not yet my fiancé at the time. There was no question if I know anybody in the US, only if I have relatives there, my confusion came from considering if I should tell I know somebody when they ask, but they did not. I did not lie, I'm just stressed and confused what I was considering (to tell or not) with actual form answers (which stated only I don't have any relatives in the US, and I don't have any). So I answered all the questions truthfully, I just mixed up questions with my inner thoughts after all that time. My only sin was not volunteering additional data, but on the other hand, nobody asked.

Sorry for the starting this thread, after all it wasn't needed, but thank you for the quick responses.

A fiance(e) is not a relative. You did no wrong.

Hi,

First, it's never a good idea to lie. You could end up with a lifetime ban from the US and be stripped of any immigration benefit. Stop lying.

Second, you are fine since lying about knowing someone in the US IS NOT A MATERIAL MISREPRESENTATION. A material misrepresentation must matter in qualifying for a visa. Whether you know someone in the US or not is not something that changes whether you would get the visa or not. While it is a misreprenation, its not material.

Fortunately for you, the misrepresentation is not material and should not be a problem for your K1 visa.

He was asked if he knew anyone in the US and he lied. How is that not a wrong?

He was not asked if he had a US relative in the US.

Then she's contradicting her posts. As you're right, the original post says something different from the OP's last comment.

Considering this is a situation where there are facts checked by people trained to detect lies, best not to lie...never lie!

That being said, you should be fine but I would seriously stick to the facts from here on out. Not only to help this process, but for your own piece of mind! If you are asking on here about it, you are concerned (as you should be).

Good luck.

Was he your fiancee at the time you applied for this tourist visa? I am looking at a sample DS-156 and it asks if your parents/siblings/fiancee are in the US. However, on the sample DS-160 (which is an online application system that I didn't get into), it only asks about parents.

So, which one did you do? Was it a paper form or something digital? And if you weren't engaged at the time of your application, you are definitely in the clear.

I applied for tourist visa and didn't indicate anywhere that I have an American boyfriend and when I was interviewed I said I am just going for vacation. If I said I am going to see my boyfriend (which was the real reason), I'd be just doomed, + I don't have any previous visa stamps in my passport. So I just couldn't do it any other way.

And from what I know, if they ask you about it on K-1 visa interview, you should say that you just wanted to get tourist visa to see how your SO lives before coming there on K-1 visa - I am sure officers know and understand that if you say directly that you're going to see your SO, you won't get the tourist visa. At least this is how it is in Russia, maybe it varies in other countries.

I wish this site, which is a "class act" and the "Cadillac" of immigration web sites, would, please, have the newbies "Post Their Time Lines" before being allowed to post on the site, sure let everybody look at the info...,.,but before posting, we should know the time line! Anyone agree.,.,.,.just my opinion.,..,sometimes it tells you more about a person posting, than their actual post!
