Write down your case number. It is a series of three letters and 10 numbers with no dashes or spaces. An example NVC case number looks like this: MNL2013524001.

Split the figures as follows: LLL NNNN NNN NNN, where "L" is a letter and "N" is a number.

Read the three letters from the left. This is the code for the U.S. consulate that has jurisdiction over the visa applicant's location. It is where you will get a visa interview. For example, "MNL" refers to the U.S. consulate in Manila.

Read the first four numbers following the letters. In this example it is "2013." This is the year that the NVC received the visa application.

Read the next three numbers. This is the day of the year in which the case was received. It is the figure minus 500. For example, "524" means NVC got the package on the 24th day of the year, January 24.

Right/Correct so when you print it out you have to hand write it in on some. It wouldn't let me put N/A or None on some of the questions.

So, before I create a new request form for the new layout, any other suggestions for columns? What about calculations, did I get all of them?

Also, question to those who did EP: are there received and scanned dates for emailed packages? Or is there basically just one date of when they received (or opened?) the email? Trying to figure out how the two columns for each package are going to work with those going through EP.

I know now with the new system they can "see" that there are e-mails attached to your case number within days of you sending it, but I don't think this is the same as scanned date because they never know what is in the e-mail when I asked. I'm assuming that once they get around to opening it, they are reviewed at the time and the scanned date is just the date they received it because you already did what they do to the physical mail, scan them as .pdf's to have in a digital database, I think?.

On another note..

My case was expedited and I got the letter dated July 9 that the expedite request was approved and the case with all files were immediately sent to the embassy, so I'm not sure what you want to do for me on the spreadsheet. I don't want to skew the data the wrong way so if you would like to adjust it in anyway feel free. My spouse received the e-mail to schedule an interview appointment online on July 13 and CEAC at this time said "READY". We did this ourselves and chose our own date based on what was available and they sent an e-mail confirmation of the interview appointment on July 27. This is all of the information I have so far.

Note: if your case doesn't arrive at NVC in a timely manner (timely manner being the current wait time), VJ member tokinaija suggests: "Call USCIS, and specifically request to be connected to a Tier 2 supervisor (bypassing the contract customer reps). When connected to a Tier 2 representative, request that you want confirmation that your approved case has been physically shipped to NVC. In amenable words, request for the specific date that the package was shipped. If you it are lucky, you will get someone who would take the time to confirm this for you."

I am quoting Saylin's wiki and I would like to add my experience. We got NOA2 on March 6, 2014 and from the spreadsheet the cases reach NVC in less than a month, mostly around two weeks after approval. When our case didn't arrive at the NVC in this time frame, my husband (petitioner) called USCIS and was transferred to tier 2 who insisted file was sent to NVC and gave us a complaint number or something starting with OVP. NVC operators kept asking to wait 8 weeks as it sometimes took that long for a case to arrive at NVC. After 30 days of approval when the case was still not at NVC, NVC asked to write to NVCResearch. NVCResearch replied after some weeks about case not being with them. My email to NSCFollowup told me to have the petitioner contact them and US law prohibited them from revealing anything to me. Any calls made by petitioner to the USCIS were stubbornly refused to be transferred to tier2, still insisting file was sent to NVC. Congressman was involved and the response to him was case was pending an internal extended review at USCIS. Finally, on June 19 case was sent to NVC and reached them on July 1.

on the I-864 instructions it actually says to leave it blank if it dosnt apply to you. I thought the same thing until i read over the instructions.

The NVC has sent out checklists to people who left the place of residence in I-864EZ blank. A lot of people didn't want to take the risk, so they write N/A in the boxes just in case. They kind of make up their own rules along the way. You can never be sure what the NVC is going to do.

Ok Guys I have 2 questions about Police certificates

1. I read that you need a police certificate for each country you lived in after the age of 16, I have only lived in Australia and america (for 12mths) but when I went on to the Sate.Gov website and was reading about getting ready for IV package it said that you dont need one for living in America is this correct??? if its wrong does anyone know how to go about getting one from there???

2 and for any other aussies out there I went to police station today and filled out the form and did fingerprints ect how long does it normally take to get it back?

Although I think the new spreadsheet definitely offers more information, I have to just say that I prefer the old spreadsheet for being easier to read. Without as much scrolling, you can see at a glance the general trends and a summary of people's cases. It's awesome that you're willing to maintain a spreadsheet, and it's such a great resource for us, so thank you! But I kind of prefer the old one.
