I hear you about avoiding checklists. The instructions for the I-864 say that if proof of citizenship (e.g. passport or birth certificate) was already provided by the petitioner in the I-130, there is no need to resubmit it with the I-864. Proof of citizenship is only required for joint sponsors. However, since it's just a few more photocopies, and you would like to document your name change, I don't think it would hurt to send it. Don't send the original! They are not required for the I-864.

January, 2013!? I thought it was a typo and you meant January, 2014!

That means you've been in the immigration process for 1 year and 6 months! OMG! It's torture!

According to your timeline, you sent your IV package on May 24th. Did you send your AOS package before May 24th?

If so, I hope you get a CC this week! Fingers crossed!

Saddly, not a typo. It has been that long.

Our docs were received by NVC on June 6th.... so I guess I'm "looking forward" to another week or two or three (or hell, probably months in my case) of waiting.

Hi nightingalejules that is great news that your EP packages were received the day after you sent them, did the operator tell you that when you called? I am planning on sending my AOS package Monday, and leaning strongly towards EP. I know everyone says it is longer, but right now it seems like both filing methods are taking long and I love the idea of holding on to my originals and saving on courier fees (that is money we can put towards interview flights instead). If you had it to do over again, would you still have chosen electronic processing?

To be clear, they didn't actually open the email the day after I sent them - these "packages received into my file" weren't showing until this week. But when they finally got around to opening the emails, they entered them into the system as having been received the day after I sent them. So I spent several weeks worrying that they didn't get there at all (since you don't receive an auto-reply anymore).

Yes, I would still have done EP, for the reasons you mentioned. I don't want to hand over my originals, and I don't like paying big chunks of money on post/courier. (And I feel you on the interview flights - we live in Vancouver so it's quite a ways to fly for the interview!!!!)

For IR-1/CR-1 visa types, the petitioner's birth certificate is NOT required in the IV package. That package is all about the beneficiary; only their birth certificate is needed.

Since you're the petitioner, don't even worry about the name change. You can bring the deed to the interview, but I highly doubt they'll ask for it.

I obviously had a reading comprehension fail. Of course you're talking about the IV package. Do you mean you're the beneficiary/applicant?

You'll need to send the documentation showing your name change to the name that appears in your passport. I understand your hesitation to send original documents, but I think that's what's required here. (For comparison, they require originals of divorce decrees, etc.) Can you obtain an official copy from the office that issued the name change deed? Any original documents that you submit to the NVC will be returned to you after your interview as long as you give them a photocopy for their records.

Thank you very much, it seems we had brain fails together! This process will do it to you... my husband got a visa for to the UK within 3 months... I didnt realise it was a slow torture to do the opposite... I will send the original deed and hope they do not lose it! Good luck everyone!

Exactly. And that's what's the worst thing for us who had to wait on both stages for so long. Atleast they should have two departments one of them working just on 2013 files and other on 2014. It's just so unfair and cruel what they are doing to us. Was it our fault to get married from jan to June 2013? This is just really unfair that people who get approved in 22 days are put together with ppl who waited 10.5 months like me or even 13 months for some ppl at Uscis stage. I think we should make a complaint.

I don't think it will help us at all the same with the complaint for USCIS which now has us in this mess but I'm willing to complain just tell me where. And no it's not fair and they should compensate us and not make us wait forever for a interview date for months like we will have to wait.

I was married in jan 2013 and I haven't seen my husband for 18 months. It's just so terrible and brings me so close to Tears but then I think that just a couple months more and it's gonna be over inshAllah

Awwwww thank you my dear friend and I feel the same way about you. I married in 2011 and came back to the USA in May of last year to take care of my parents or I would have stayed with my husband. I know the moments of anguish of feeling all alone of thinking did I really find the love of my life or has this only been a dream and now I'm awake hahahaaa. One of the main things that made our USCIS letter campaigns possible - and got us recognition from both USCIS and eventually the media - is that we had hard data to back up our claims. Monthly volume and trend reports, information from the AILA, internal government emails linking DACA and the I-130 backlog, etc. I think making a similar push with NVC would be difficult because all we have to go on are anecdotes from members here. NVC doesn't publish statistics like USCIS does. I'm not saying it's impossible or not worth a shot, but I do think it would be much harder to compose a compelling, factual argument to complain about how much worse things are now than a few months ago.

I agree but at the same time they are connected thus the evidence.
