Yes you can. If you included the G-1145 - when you get the email telling you that your package has been accepted by the USCIS there should be a receipt number included in the email. You can check right away using the USCIS case status online, but it may take a few days for the USCIS system to recognize your receipt number. Fom that point on you can continue checking the status of your N-400 application. This is what I did for my gal, anways.

As said, you need to have the G-1145 included. Then you can signup for an account once you got your receipt number via email or SMS. I would strongly recommend it for everyone.

No, you don't need to send the G-1145 - that only gets you a text/email message. I didn't send that form and nor have I had to create any kind of account to have successfully checked my status online.

Simply enter your case number (in its entirety, including letters and any special characters)n the "receipt number" field here, minions2:

Right but if you didn't send the G-1145 you have to wait until the first letter show up to get you case number.

I know. But the insinuation on this thread to date is that one MUST send the G-1145 to be able to get an online status update. And I'm simply redressing the balance by informing the OP that that is not in fact the case. Nothing more, nothing less.
