FlyingPhoenix--

Did you have a sponsor other than your fiancé? Can you confirm a joint sponsor's birth certificate was asked of you? I do not believe this to be a requirement for an I-134 in London. Yes, it would be for a IR1/CR1 spouse visa using the I-864 because that has specific rules stating the joint sponsor must be a USC. There aren't any such rules for a K1 and the I-134.

Yes I did have a co sponsor and yes I can confirm they asked for the co sponsors birth certificate to be included in their part of the affidavit. Perhaps it didn't used to be a requirement but it is now, at least it was when I had my interview.

Thank you Flying Phoenix, reading this comment was very helpful, My interview is set for the 9th July, so every day now I'm double checking I will have everything I need!

I recently had my interview. When you get to the embassy and queue to go in they will want to see your appointment letter, DS-160 confirmation page and your passport (before you even get inside the embassy) then when you go in you get given a number so you can be called up and when you go to the first window they ask for DS-160, passport, confirmation of paying the $240 visa fee online, 2xUS size passport photos with your first and last name printed on the back of each one, your ORIGINAL birth certificate and police certificate, I did have photocopies of both with me but the woman told me they used to want those but they don't anymore they just want originals and these were handed back to me after I had my visa approved, they finally asked for the affidavit of support that my fiancé had filled out (this was the I-134 form + any extra financial evidence such as tax returns! pay stubs, bank statement etc... Just had to give all that over together) also a word of advice, if you have a co sponsor they will need the co sponsors birth certificate included with the affidavit, they will already have your fiancés and you will be providing yours but if there is an addition person who will also be sponsoring you along with your fiancé then you need to have their birth certificate also to prove they are a US citizen. They didn't ask for any extra evidence of the relationship when I was being questioned they simply looked through my file at the evidence that had already been provided. It is my understanding that London never asks for extra proof of the relationship, needless to say I had some with me anyway just incase. So as long as you have all the essential paperwork, if you want to bring anything else for peace at mind then go ahead, at least you have it if for some reason they did ask you for anything but chances are you will be leaving the embassy with your approval without even needing to so much as think about getting any extra proof out for them. Good luck and hope everything works out for you! :)

Can anyone else applying for K1 Visa with a co-sponsor who has recently had their interview confirm that they too were asked to provide the co-sponsor's birth certificate? I can't find that this is a requirement. Thanks.

Received this email reply back regarding co-sponsor birth certificate:

Thank you for your email.

You are not required to supply your co-sponsor’s birth certificate.

I would rather have something and not need it ...

... than to need it and not have it.

True to a degree, but I ended up taking far more than I needed and it took me time sifting through what I didn't need to find what I did. For the UK, less is more.

There's that smell again...

Nich-Nick, you may have just confused and scared me with your last statement. When filing for spouse on IR1/CR1 you need the joint sponsor's birth certificate? And what about that joint sponsor having to be a USC? I have filed a petition for my wife recently (I-130), and I will have to have a joint sponsor. My joint sponsor is in the process of waiting for her oath ceremony, but at this time she is still an LPR. All I know, is that the joint sponsor has to be either an LPR or a USC - currently residing in the US (having U.S. domicile) and either biographic page from U.S. passport or photo copies of both sides of LPR card need to be submitted. There is no information on birth certificates. Could you clarify this for me please.

LPR is also acceptable. Yes to greencard. I was abbreviating for the K1 and not taking the time to be uber-detailed on immigrant visa requirements. Sorry I gave you a scare. It can be birth certificate, US passport, naturalization certificate for USC joint sponsors, or the greencard for LPR sponsors.

K1s-- file that away for your AOS if you use a joint sponsor because you will do I-864 with the stricter requirements at that time.

This is a relief. I just today realised my Skype account only saves logs for a month at a time (no idea when I set that up) and was panicking because I thought I wouldn’t be able to show additional proof with history of phone calls. I was going to lug about two years’ worth of phone records with me to the embassy.
