My mom in law is co-sponsor of my spouse and since that mom and dad file taxes joint, dad needs to fill out i-864A right? Now, what are the requirements to submit with the form i-1864 and i-864a, their 1040a but they don't have W2 I guess because of they are retired. Mu hubby's I-864 is already ready and he is just waiting for his letter of employment. PLSSSS HELP!!

They are called joint sponsors not co-sponsors. And whomever makes more signs the I-864 and whomever makes less signs the I-864a. Including tax return transcripts is the easiest vs including the entire tax return. They can download them online on the IRS website.

If your husband needs a joint sponsor you don't really need to bother with an employer letter. He doesn't make enough anyhow.

The reason we get a joint sponsor is that his 2013 tax is 1,000 short to meet the poverty guidelines although he has savings in the bank. But his income for this year 2014 is above the poverty guidelines. Do we need a joint sponsor still or just have one in case they ask?

you should not need one if he CURRENTLY makes over the guidelines.

yes joint sponsors should still prove current income. Edited by NLR

may be this depend on the CO, because I have been asked for a join sponsor(I864A) and I am above the poverty line currently. I felt confident that I would not be requested a join or co-sponsor but I was wrong.

Ok, I will still let my parents in law filled out the forms just in case. I don't understand why the Co asked a joint sponsor if you are above poverty guidelines?

Because they can ask for you to be above the last 1-3 previous years as well, not just currently. It depends on the embassy and also on how far above the poverty guidelines you currently are and how new/old the job it. If you're barely above they can ask for a joint sponsor, If you've had the job less than 6 months they can. If you didn't make above last year or the year before but do now, or work 2 jobs to do it now, they can ask for a joint sponsor.

There are a lot of factors and yes, if you think that you may have an issue, having that paperwork ready to go at interview is a great idea!
