Filed I-751, Out of the Country for Biometrics

Our i-751 arrived in Vermont today. Based on the current June Filer Experiences, it looks like our Biometrics Appointment might be scheduled for late July. Here's the problem: We are leaving the country at the end of next month for an extended period. Looks like "touch-and-go as to whether the Biometrics Appointment will be scheduled for before we leave. Here's the questions:

1. I believe the Biometrics appointment is a SECOND letter you receive (after you get your I-751 received receipt). If so, how long after receiving your I-751 receipt does it usually take before you receive the NOTICE of your appointment?

2. I understand that you can try to do a walk-in (I'm in Boston). I assume you need to have the appointment letter before you can try to do a walk-in?

3. If I don't receive the Biometric Appointment letter in time, OR if they refuse my walk-in request, what happens if I leave the country for an extended period and miss the appointment. What would be the best strategy at that point?

i have, in the back of my mind - the biometrics letter arriving 30 days after the ROC NOA-1.

Not sure how long the extended period is, but if the walk-in doesn't work out you can always call and reschedule.

When you get the letter depends on how open the biometrics place is for appointments, but it should arrive in 30 days. You can try an early walk-in with the letter.

If you miss the appointment your ROC will be denied. It is your responsibility to make it to the appointment.

You can reschedule biometrics.

If you leave the country for extended period of time, your I-751 will be denied, you will no longer be a permanent resident and you potentially will have problems going back in unless your spouse re-petitions you.

1. You can check the timelines from other months to get an estimation of the amount of time. From what I have seen the average seems to be about a month.

2. I have only seen people try the walk in AFTER receiving the biometrics letter since they want to get it in faster than the date for which they were scheduled. I have never seen it done for an "anticipated date" from a letter that is yet to be received. They asked for my bio letter at my appointment.

3. Missing an appointment date is cause for denial and your worst option. You may have to plan your trip around the bio receipt as US is certainly will not plan the bio appt around your trip. Is there anyone who can collect your mail in your absence and let you know what the letter states?

I have a question. What do you mean by an extended trip? Some people go on vacation (a week or so) during their ROC process. Will you be gone for much longer? If your trip includes the possibility of missing both the letter and the date stated on the letter (just as a reference I got my bio letter 3 weeks after submitting my application and the actual appointment was 3 weeks after I received the bio letter, so about 6 weeks after submission) then I'm sorry to say that a denial is in your future.

It's also possible that you won't receive a biometrics letter. Since the middle of April, some of us are waived from going to the biometrics appointment because the USCIS has decided to upload our previous biometrics info.

Problem is that you have to wait and see. You can't do a walk in without the letter though.

I'm not sure if those getting a CR-1 outside the USA are getting the bio current status, and avoiding the biometrics. But it appears everyone who adjusted status in the USA no longer getting the bio letter and being told their biometrics is current and uploaded.

I found a K-1 and an AOS from "other visa" in the May filers thread that are called for biometrics. But yeah, I didn't see any CR-1 with biometrics waived yet.
