Hello,

This is for our friend's case. He is a US Citizen who plans to go to Philippines to meet his girlfriend. They been talking online for almost 2 yrs now. He will go to Phil. this August 2014, my question is can he file for a fiancee visa before he meets his gf? He wanted to bring his gf here asap and he's wondering if he can file it now or not yet till he meet her in person.

I appreciate your insights about this situation. pls. share...thank you so much!

No. Main requirement of the I-129F is having met in person within the past two years. He can have her complete the G-325A, the Letter of Intent to marry and get 2X2 passport photos while there... that would help greatly.

As you've already read in other responses, you have to have met the person within two years before you can file.

On another note, why would anyone want to petition for someone without having actually spent time together physically? No amount of time over a webcam can absolutely demonstrate that there is chemistry, sexual compatibility, etc. I can't imagine getting engaged/married to someone I hadn't actually, you know, spent time with. I lived with my then-girlfriend for a year over the course of ~2 years before we got married. I realize everyone does not have the luxury of that much time to live abroad, but the point still stands that it is probably best to spend as much time together as possible before making what is a major life decision....
